How many 1994 MLB players (not minor leaguers) are still active today as players (not coaches or staff) on any MLB team? Almost 13 years have passed, and I'd like to watch some games again. However, I made a vow way back then that I wouldn't watch an inning until all those strike players were gone.
Got a long time to go if you're going to honor that vow. ARod was playing back then. I'd expect it will be another 15 years or so before all those players are gone.
I think you'll have to wait around a little while longer The Astros have Ausmus, Biggio, and Williams. I'd guess that every major league team has at least two players that were around in 1994. If you want to watch some baseball games, then watch some damn baseball games. Get over it... Come to think of it, I'm still kind of pissed at that whole WWII fiasco. I'm never going to Germany, Italy, or Japan...
Yeah, but A-Rod was probably one of the youngest players in the game at that time, and due to his durability, will probably play longer than anyone else that was in the game during that year. A-Rod is 32 right now, so I doubt he plays another 15 years. MAYBE 10. Maybe.
Maybe you're right about ARod. But i forgot about Julio Franco. He was playing back then, so that's another 20 years you'll have to wait before he retires. Don't worry you'll get to watch it again w/ your great grandkids
I've always figured about 2015 (21 years), but I was hoping for sooner. Vows are no good unless you are willing to keep them. I was hoping that the great majority had fallen by the wayside.
The thread title had me thinking this was gonna be tinman-ish baseball version recollect. Well if its been this long since you watched mlb baseball, you dont even like baseball to begin with. Why bother?
I love baseball. I miss it. But, if I swear a blood oath, I keep it. I don't even let myself watch highlights lest I be tempted. There was I time in my youth when I could tell you the batting average or pitching record (plus stats) of every New York Yankee and every Colt .45er. I was a serious addict. But I can wait a little bit longer.
It's very impressive that you stuck by your vow. Like i said earlier, it's probably going to be at least a decade before everyone is gone from 1994. i think you proved your point. but, i guess if it's that important to you then don't watch it. At leastthe rockets/texans/titans will be good for the near future if you're a houston fan. And hey, if you skip a dozen baseball years you'll probably be back in time for the astros to contend again
I have followed the Rockets since they arrived in Houston. I was a huge Oilers fan, but I never quite warmed up to the Texans and lost interest in the Titans. However, I have followed the Dallas Cowboys since the days of Dandy Don and Roger Staubach. And I do still enjoy going to baseball games -- mnor league though. The San Antonio Missions even won the 2007 Texas League championship.

A-Rod is still signed for many years to come, so you've got a ways to go. Jamie Moyer started in 1986 and doesn't seem like he will ever retire.
Pity. My college roommate wanted to take in an Astros game while they are still in the National League. Looks like I'll have to wait until the 2014 season is over since my vow was every strike player gone or 20 years, whichever comes first.
For your own enjoyment, I would urge you to reconsider this vow as MLB players can strike at any time for a myriad of potential issues: any prospect of full-on revenue sharing for one; and you could conceivably end up re-setting the clock two or three times for the next 40 years.
