superstar or not spurs have been good for a while.

Doesnt anyone else find it weird that howard, melo, bosh, williams, lebron, etc have never even had san antonio on their radar?

This whole time spurs have been right there on the list and yet not a sniff from these all stars.

    Yet they continue to win.

That's why I said "they don't have a superstar per se", but you can't deny Duncan's impact when he's on the court.

quit rationalizing this. It's like Chelsea vs Munchen.

Do you really want to root for either team?

As my season ticket holder buddy in Stuttgart..."Chelsea...f!ch Munchen."

Fuc San Antonio...their fans don't get it...they got **** dropped into their lap and they still want the NFL more than the Spurs.

Most stupid basketball fans I have ever met.

TD at 35 is still better than anyone on the rockets so are TP and Manu. TD may not play as many minutes, but per 36 min his numbers haven't dropped off a ton. And for stretches he can play like a super star.

So the Spurs' best players had their minutes limited during the regular season. Does that make them superstars or stars or just good? I have no idea...don't really care. They're a good team with productive players.

Duncan ranked 26th in the league in PER during the regular season, but adjusted for per minute and any player that played 20+ minutes, he was 4th behind LeBron, Love and Durant, and ahead of Bynum, Howard, and Paul. What I take from that is LeBron is damn good for 38mpg (unless it's the last minute), and that Duncan is damn good for 31 mpg. And even though Duncan only played 31 mpg, he is a top 5 player in the league when he's in the game.

Their whole team, collectively, is the best player in the world.

    Yeah, Go Spurs! :p

Unfortunate that one of SA or OKC has to lose and will be going home early.

PS: Bring Dennis Lindsey back!

It will bug the hell out of Shaq if Duncan wins another ring.

I would love to watch that series. 2 teams playing team ball in the finals. When's the last time that happened?

Yes. Yes. Yes. Pop is on a higher level than other NBA coaches. The guy is a genius.

The Spurs don't have any superstars. TD, TP and Manu are A-level players but each of them plays within the motion offense that creates shots for everybody.

Tony Parker has been playing on a elite level this season. Top 5 PG this year, that is what I'd call a superstar, especially at a position as stacked as PG.

Check out what Tony Parker said a year ago.

Tony Parker says Spurs no longer playing for a title
Kurt Helin May 19, 2011, 1:48 PM EDT
    AP
    It’s over.

It’s not just us saying that the championship era of the San Antonio Spurs has come to an end, it’s now the Spurs themselves.

Tony Parker was interviewed by French sports paper L’Equipe, translated by the official FIBA website (via the amazing Tom Ziller), and he was frank about the future of this Spurs roster.

“At the start of the season I said this was our last chance,” he said. “Tim (Duncan) and Gino (Manu Ginobili) are getting old. It’s going to be tough to regenerate ourselves.

“We will always have a good team but we can no longer say that we’re playing for a championship.”

Parker talks about the frustration and disappointment of the season’s ending, having a great regular season (top seed in the West) that came crashing down in the playoffs. The fixes needed to make the Spurs contenders again are not simple tweaks or Gregg Popovich forcing the team focus back to defense. The changes to the roster will be deeper.

On another note, Parker said he will play for France this summer in EuroBasket, with Olympic bids on the line.

But he also discusses the big issue with NBA players in that and other international tournaments this summer — the lockout and insurance.

“If there is a lockout, the NBA won’t pay their part for the players’ insurances (to play at the EuroBasket, FIBA Americas Championship, Afrobasket, FIBA Oceania Championship),” he warned.

“So that’s going to create a huge problem. There have already been some meetings and we will see what happens. We will see what Patrick Beesley (France national team director) and his team get out of it. We will have to see with Boris (Diaw) and Joakim (Noah) if we can get together and find a common accord. We’ll see.”

It will be interesting to see if they can surpass the record for the least losses for a playoff team. From memory it is the Lakers at 1. But my memory is poor.

76ers lost only one game in 83, when Moses Malone famously said "fo, fo, fo".

Thanks so much for the research people! Can the spurs tie or beat that record? I think that once they get out of the West it will be smooth sailing.

No superstar? Yes you are right, because they have 2 superstars in Duncan and Parker.
And it's nothing new for the Spurs to play well, they have been doing it for a decade already. They whooped on a crappy Jazz team, and are whooping on an overrated clippers team. They will get tested when they face the OKC Thunder.
I dont think they are legit, but that's my opinion. They are a really good team, but Okc is just better and will match up well against them. I say OKC in 6.
