Yeah, you can't just keep 100's of people locked up. But it does seem the could have reviewed it quicker

I would think at the very least they could charge her with child endangerment and other like charges. I'm sure the cops/da could think of all kinds of ****

Just check IDs on the way out and write down adult names, hair color, height, and age. Chances are she is also a Costco member who got her Costco ID at the same store. Maybe they will still get her?

Seems like something else could have been done. But, I guess not. I just hope someone else's kid doesn't become an actual victim. Hide your kidz!

I'm curious how the woman managed to get the store locked down so quickly, especially before the other lady made it out. I mean, if you're actually kidnapping someone, you're not exactly going to dilly-dally. I would be running around on my own for a good bit before heading to manager to shut the doors. Quick thinking on her part.

But yeah, you can't just keep all those people there against their will without some kind of evidence of foul play. And at that point, the cops would have to get involved, which would slow things down even further, and so on.

Definitely a scary situation, but I have to wonder if the kidnapper might not have been someone just mentally ill, elderly, etc. I guess I just can't see a sane criminal doing something that high profile in broad daylight.

Wow, this thread got embarrassingly real. This is what happens when everyone on Clutchfans thinks they can fix the world with their pedantic ranting.

Scary, simple Costco story becomes an intellectual battle about homeschooling. SMH

At any rate, I also wondered how the woman was not able to move out of the store faster than the mother was able to contact the manager and, in turn, initiate a quick lockdown. You could probably exit the store in less than 30 seconds whereas any chain of communication is going to take longer than that.

Have you never been in a Costco or something?? Sure everything comes in bulk, but when you have a family, it's hell of a lot more convenient to buy items that you know you use regularly in larger quantities than making 4 trips to the grocery store and paying higher prices for it. 90% of Costco's business comes from families....and I really have absolutely no idea what you're talking about when you say it's for men. Go to the Costco inside the loop where it's MILF galore, and I'm sure you'll change your tune. Also, Sam's Club is where more business owners shop....that, and Harwin.

Also, Moes, don't let that troll get to you man. He obviously lives for this *hit, and you're letting him win. Insecurities have a really funny way of showing themselves, and Ronny has to be one of the most insecure posters I've ever seen, with his constant self-aggrandizing and tearing down of others.

i'm guessing you can't simply walk <strike>into mordor</strike> out of a store with a cart full of products.

Well, that begs the question, how could somebody in their right mind attempt to execute such a poorly thought out crime?

And beyond that, who is willing to kidnap a child, but not steal some groceries?

    1. That story is pretty damn horrifying. Glad it wasn't worse.

    2. This board has really gone downhill with trolls and BBS characters climbing all over each other to try and get the biggest rise out of the other posters.

Tell me about it...it sucks when all people want to do is get in a fight with you, ruins the experience, and then when you fight back, ruins it even more.

    Sucks...really.

    Scary story.

Also funny how some people never hesitate to dish it out (e.g., supposedly funny racist remarks about Asians), but go completely nuts when a nerve is touched. The posts actually explain where this behavior comes from, though, so I am not judging. I guess there is an explanation for anything. Still, nothing justifies wishing aids upon someone.

No joke? :p I was assuming she would have ditched the cart and carried the kid out.

I live in the apartment connected to the back of the parking lot there. I'm in there with my 2 year old son from time two time. F**K that. If I saw someone doing that with my child I would probably black out and something bad would happen.

I agree, I'm impressed the woman had the presence of mind to immediately get the place locked down. I don't think I would have

Also, if the child was three wouldn't it freak out of a stranger started taking it?

I hope the OP's friend learned a little lesson in all this. A few seconds is all it takes for a kid to go missing. By leaving the cart with the kid in it to talk to the sample lady, she has placed her faith in her fellow human beings at that point...and some of these human beings are just plain scum who will take advantage. Next time, she may want to take her kid with her even if it seems like a trivial few seconds. The people whose kids go missing are the ones who take their eye off of them. It's how practically every missing kid story starts and most of them don't end well.

you don't have to worry. i'm sure the kidnapper is long gone from that costco. but she's likely to be at any of the other 35 grocery stores in your area.

Usually it's not the easiest thing to walk out of Costco or Sam's. You have to stand in line and show them your receipt while they make sure it matches the contents of your cart. Seems like they could have checked everyone on the way out, as long as the person with the missing kid got up to the front of the store fast, and it probably wouldn't have been easy to get the child out without it being spotted.
