Interesting point about the subsidies; maybe that explains things. Eating healthier is more time consuming and expensive. Right now I'm thinking about lunch and might ideally stop by the salad bar at the grocery, which would be great, but I'd also end up paying $7 or more for a large salad by the time they weigh the container. (and I don't have the ingredients to make the same kind at home; a lot of processing work and some of the ingredients would go bad before I had used a whole package of all of them) A burger or taco based junk meal would be more cost effective. This is why so many of us don't eat healthy most of the time. If good salads, veggie wraps, lean sandwiches, etc. were available for a few dollars from drive-thru windows or convenience stores, I bet they would be eaten a lot more often. Right now, despite everyone on the Internet claiming they eat healthy, that's not what sells when I go out on the street, or to the store, and look around at what people are actually eating and buying.
Maybe it's because there is high fructose corn syrup in almost everything in the USA . If you drink a ton of soda, you should stop. Or at least gradually move away from it. If you absolutely can't stop drinking soda (There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to stop) at least buy Mexican Coke, or a throw back version of your favorite beverage as it contains real sugar. Honestly though, just stay away from sugar and enriched corn flour. I'm not properly educated on all the scientific studies regarding HFCS so feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
THIS. walk then weight lifting I look forward walking my dog for 45 minutes after work almost every day. It relaxes me and love spending time with my dog. Exercise become a part of your daily routine if you love doing it. I love weight lifting and my walks with the dog. Find something that you love!
i blame it on our litigious society. elementary kids can't play dodgeball in fear of a lawsuit from parents if the kid scratches his knees. this reminds me. a few weeks ago i took my niece to the playground and i spotted the rocket ship. the freaking rocket ship! i didn't even know they still had these. i was more excited than my niece. i walked quickly in anticipation of throwing her in that thing and watch her climb to the top. my excitement was quickly turned to animosity when we realized they welded the opening shut. WTF?
The problem is it's really hard to eat just 1500 calories of processed junk per day. Processed stuff just makes me hungrier.
Why then did you bring it up to criticize the current obesity crisis if the government isn't even using it now? Knowledge isn't static and in this case the advice has changed as new information has come out. Your criticism is based on current knowledge bashing something that isn't really relevant now.
True, but eating real food like non-processed meat, veggies, fruit, and nuts is a lot more filling. Since I've made the switch I rarely ever snack or get cravings. I also skip meals every now and then and I don't get hungry.
Bro, fruit juice and silly drinks like gatorade are one of the main reasons our country is obese. All that stuff is loaded with sugar and for whatever reason people just can't drink water.
Agree. This is actually backwards. Eat protein, fats, and veggies and you will never be obese. Eat bread and pasta and grains and you'll be fat with gluten and autoimmune issues.
Yes, me too. And it's the same with Gatorade, powerade, and all that sugary crap with fake colors in it. People think that's healthy or that it actually gives them a boost in sports performance. It's just water with sugar and fake colors.
Are you joking? You think you're supposed to eat 6-11 servings of grains per day? And limit fats, especially healthy fats? The food pyramid is a disgrace and completely backwards.
It's loaded with sugar and simple carbohydrates which get stored directly as fat. The only time I would drink OJ is post workout. Your body will use it to replenish glycogen stores and it will be beneficial for recovery.
Anyone remember the movie Wall-E I swear the world will be like that someday people to fat to walk and have a space chairs that floats to get around.. people are lazy simple as that and a lot of it has to do with fast food and media/electroincs as in Videos games, facebook etc... kids don't wanna play outside like they use to they rather be inside eating playing games watching netflix things like that. I admit fast food is easy to get and fast but i feel horrible after eating it because i dont wanna wait 30 mins to cook my dinner. Working out feels great and everyone should atleast try to do some type of exercise a day. It's sad but it will only get worse.
True, but in my former days as a nutrition coach, I've learned that people are addicted to sugar in their drinks. Eating sugar was never much of a challenge to get people to cut out the cakes, cookies and crap, but people could never stop drinking sugar from my experiences.
Of course it's relevant now, most people are still very ignorant about what constitutes a healthy diet. Look at this thread, Air Langhi just asked earlier 'what is wrong with the food pyramid?'. My parents still think saturated fats are extremely harmful (and are skeptical when I try to tell them otherwise). This ignorance is due to the government pushing bad information for decades (and using tax dollars to do it). This is what Michelle Obama and the government push now Though better than the food pyramid, it's not great either. Over half that plate is sugar (fruit, grain, dairy)
getting sick of health topics... its really not hard and so many people are misinformed. mostly due to the constant in your face ****ty diets, weight watchers BS, exercise BS, low fat BS, gluten free BS (gluten free doesnt mean anything to the majority, only a minority are allergic to it... meaning it has nothing to do with fat or health) and the biggest bull**** of them all "genes". give me a break you ****ing lazy ass. its pretty damn simple. 1. drink nothing but water 2. stay to the outside of grocery store, you know, where there is nothing but fresh foods. 3. move around some which i understand this thread is more about businesses effects on our food consumption and all of the misinformation that is spread and is very interesting to me. just goes back to every other facet of our society now that everything is managed to get the almighty dollar. make a product too good, you will put yourself out of business. engineer a predetermined lifespan to keep a revenue stream.
