Rockets wont win another championship in 50 years, with without Howard.

Getting into fancy trades is the best way for Rockets to generate talks around the nation. Enjoy the moment.

I dont put much stock at all into any rumours that the Rockets ever wanted to try and match a Miami big three type of aquisition thinking that they must have both Dwight and Deron to compete for a title. Im sure they would love to get both, but If they JUST landed Dwight, I think they would be perfectly fine building around him.

You can win a title with a team designed around the best center in the league if the surrounding pieces fit into place. The Rockets did it with Hakeem, and they tried to build around Yao for years only for those plans to stay grounded by Yao's glass foot.

There is no reason why they shouldn't take a shot at Dwight. Worse comes to worst, Dwight bolts and the pro-tankers on Clutchfans finally get what they want... A team that is finally depleated enough to be bad enough to get a high draft pick. Its a win/win in all reality rather than being stuck where they are right now.

I dont think Morey has anything to loose at this point. Is it about putting butts in the seats at the Toyota Center..... YES of course. Its a business. Businesses need paying customers. Thats reality.

If and thats a big IF, the Rockets aquire Dwight, they are much closer to winning a title then the Charlotte Bobcats, Wizards, or any other team that is in contention to win the #1 pick will be in the next 5 to 10 years. If they can get Dwight, even if its just got a year guaranteed, its worth a shot.

Not saying I like the guy though. As a person I cant stand him, and he's proven to be two faced and manipulative to his team. That still does not matter. You take your chances at getting your feelings hurt if he leaves, or you stay safe and stay stuck in the middle.

Trading for Dwight is like asking out the popular girl in high school. She could break her heart, she'll probably leave you, but ******* will you have something special if it works out.

Just curious - - what does a team do with two mid-firsts + MM and PP and DM + CP25 and CB + (presumably) either KL or GD + LS/KM + (presumably) CL. Answer, too many nice players, nice upsides, nice chance for another 14th pick (yawn).

One of the Rockets' problems IMHO is that there's too much of a muchness, so Lin gets cut, TWill gets no shot, MM sits and grows (or rots). This team needs 10 good rotational players, not 12 or more. One or two star quality players (one Heat loss and suddenly notsuperstar Bosh is discovered to have value).

Bima said that DH12 works or Rox go crash in the night. Good point. Go for it, either one.

already had one Orlando diva with back problems; don't need another. I wish the Rockets organization had the stomach to build something that lasts from the ground up, as opposed to trying to be the next glorified poacher, creating a fly-by-night contender with no fan favorites or team chemistry. I know this is how much of the NBA works, but it feels cheap and unsatisfying to me. I watch OKC or Indy and realize that they basically drafted most of the key contributers to their success. I wish we could follow suit and grow some of our own. I don't even freaking like Dwight Howard. ...and what's more, I don't think i have another draft night disappointment in me.

Just got done with this interview. Very interesting to hear the Orlando guys take on what they think of the potential package coming back to them in a Dwight trade.

-One thing that I picked up from one of the Orlando Espn radio guys questions he asked Clutch was something about the Rockets capspace, and what I think he was getting at is could the Rockets take on enough bad contracts to help the Magic sort of wipe the slate clean. At least thats what I understood was the biggest selling point in Dwight going to Houston. Sounds like they just want to start over if they loose Dwight.

-Also went into detail about the Rashard Lewis free agent signing a few years back, and why he didn't go back to Houston instead of Orlando. Clutch's answer was the Rockets only had around the MLE to offer Lewis, and it was a no-brainer for him to take the max salary that was offered to him.

-went over the similarities in Orlando to Houston as far as cities that were viewed as prime time locations in past that find themselves de-valued now to second class citizens in the NBA.

That radio interviewer was an ass.

“You guys hung two championship banners…of course Jordan was off playing baseball. Heh heh heh.”

After Clutch got off regarding Yao's injuries: “I never thought the Rockets could ever win a title with Yao anyway.”

They sure were. Really enjoyed the interview though. I like how they call it "Clutchfans ... The Blog" :)

    In semi-related news:

    http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/43835

Ford also said he thinks the Magic will let go Otis Smith in the next few days, which -- and I brought this up before -- very well could mean that all the groundwork that may had been layed before the deadline, would be destroyed.
Another GM, for all we know, might go in a completely different direction.
Oh well. Let's hope I'm wrong on this. :(

Funny this comes from Orlando guys: while Jordan was off playing baseball, Orlando was busy having their asses handed to them in a sweep.

All this speculation about the Rockets obtaining Howard acts as a double-edged sword. While it does generate fan interest, it also raises fan's expectations to ludicrously high levels. Yet, very few people are actually recognizing the fact that all this talk is purely speculation.

Were the Rockets in talks with the Magic? sure. But the fact of the matter remains there also other teams involved in talks and even evidence to suggest the Rockets weren't even the ones picking up Howard and simply a team needed a filler to facilitate a Howard deal.

While we can speculate all we want about whether or not the Rockets were or were not close to landing Howard, the fact remains that we don't have him. To make matters worse, he doesn't even want to play here (going by the list of teams he was willing to go).

This discussion about Howard would be great if we had hard facts to go by (maybe players that were included in an original package for Howard), but we don't even have that. Dwight Howard in a Rockets uniform would do wonders for the organization, but honestly he would wonders for ANY organization, not only from a basketball standpoint but also from a business standpoint.

Just like the speculation regarding the pursuit of other superstars before Howard (I.e carmelo, stoudamire, etc), rockets fans should take these supposed rumors with a grain of salt. What of we don't land Howard? If no Howard does that mean no Williams? And then what? What is the organization left with other than yet another disappointed fan base?

Speculation does create interest, but sometimes if taken too far it could can come back to haunt haunt. So far, all we really have to go by is pure speculation that lacks any tangible evidence. Until we have some facts to work with, its probably advisable as fans not to get your hopes up.

    Cheers--to ahopefully more successful offseason.

Just let Morey surround Dwight with the RIGHT players, and you will see the amazing difference of Dwight making a legit championship run. Remember how good we could have been had Yao/TMac/Artest could have remained healthy? Morey will find the pieces to help Dwight successful, and it won't be at the detriment of the Rocket's future except for Howard's max contract. That may be the only problem is if he had lingering injury problems after the back surgery. But now that he's damaged goods, that's the only way Orlando will deal him.

Here is a better question. How does a team with no superstar make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs?

I thought they were both nice and respectful ... but the bolded line was like, "What?" The reason is:

    1. Jordan not only played, but your team knocked Jordan out that year.
    2. The Rockets beat your team.

But it was a good experience. I wanted to talk about why they thought Howard opted-in, but it never got to that.
