Finished Act 1 last night. Actually, more like this morning. Dual wielding barbs own early, be interesting to see if the difficulty catches up to you. Also like having to buy storage space and more advanced artisans, givez me something to do with the gold that built up by the end of D2.
I got to the beta late, and only managed to finish it with a Barbarian and a Wizard. I liked both, but the beta seemed to have a pretty watered-down difficulty, and the real game does seem to bear that out. I started with a Wizard this time, and while the beginning is VERY similar to the beta, there are definitely some changes, and not the least of them is that the difficulty is ramped up, which is fine. But I am sad to say, I did actually die once already because I got 'feared' into a large group of bad guys, and a low level wizard is just too squishy to be able to survive that kind of thing. Ah well, loving it so far. Once the servers finally came back up last night, I got into the Fields of Misery, started finding some yellows, and just enjoying exploring again. One thing about playing the wizard (and maybe there IS a way to do this, but if so, I have not heard it yet) - the electrical attack with the 'exploding enemies' rune is really good for inside a dungeon, but there are time I would rather be using the longer-distance arcane shot attack, but I haven't found an easy way to change that on the fly. Maybe there is, and I just haven't found it yet, but it would be really nice to be able to save power layouts and switch them whenever you need them. Ah well, enjoy that Barb and Wizard..
Am I the only one playing a monk (level 20 now)? Freaking love this class. I think they took a lot of influence from Lee Sin in League of Legends. The mobility the class has is insanity. I really like Dashing Strike (warps you to an enemy...you warp in behind them...it roots them if you hit them...then you can rune it), it keeps you from ever being surrounded, and basically no enemies can ever get away from me between that and Fists of Thunder w/ Thunderclap rune (makes you warp to enemies and punch them). Some of the combos you can do are really sick. I like to Dashing Strike into a huge group of enemies, use Cyclone Strike (which sucks all nearly enemies into you, and damages them), then use Lashing Tail Kick (AoE, spinning kick, with knock back and damage). That combo completely wipes huge groups of mobs. Plus seeing them all get sucked in then launched across the map (the ones that survived anyway) is hilarious. I've actually been using other skills than those most recently, but the type of combos you can do in the game in general are really interesting. Did I mention the class has a crazy amount of heals too?
I use them both occasionally. In the options/gameplay make sure elective mode is on. You can set any skill to any of your action buttons. At one time I had, Arcane Shot (left mouse), Electric attack (right mouse), Arcane Blast (1 key), Frozen Blast (2 Key) as my set. You can set your attacks to just about anything you want. The only limitation is you cannot set an ability that will impact movement to the left button.
I've been playng a monk. Only level 12 or so, but having a lot of fun. A very nice hybrid class with the dps and the healing.
Been playing a Witch Doctor and am at level 30 now. Started to not like the Witch Doctor, hit a lull around act II. Then hit level 18 got more skills and have been loving it ever since. One important thing is people should enable 'Elective Mode' in the options if you haven't. Much easier to switch abilities around this way. I'm at the beginning of Act IV but am going out of town so I wont get to play again until Monday. Such a fun game that is definitely leaps and bounds better than D2. My roommates are on hell mode and I can hear them raging from all the times they die.
Lvl 21 WD as of last night, and it's been a blast! The wide variety of skills make you think hard on what you should focus on with your passive abilities. Seems like WD has the role of a close-ranged caster, gaining satisfaction running in and out of enemies groups to soul harvest and spam fire toads all over the screen. Read about the guild Method (top 3? worldwide guild in WoW) struggling pretty bad in Inferno, having just beaten Act 2. I say struggle because apparently they're avoiding all the elite monster packs (hardest part of the game, more so than bosses) and running straight to the boss, while exploiting a rez bug during boss fights. If a hardcore guild like them are slamming their faces into the wall on inferno, you know it's no cakewalk.
Wow, that's exactly I how I felt yesterday. I think they made a mistake not letting people play single player locally. WTF.
I am also using a monk, level 29 now and just finished act 3. Lashing tail kick is nothing compared to wave of light with explosive light rune, unlocked at lvl 25. It has a huge ass radius and better damage than Lashing Tail kick. I am still learning how to properly use Exploding Palm to finish off enemies. If an enemy dies with this effect, it will explode for 30% of its maximum life as damage, the only skill with damage related to monster life as far as I know. The first rune of the skill also amplifies damage, so that's also a nice debuff. I was able to pull it off a few times in a crowded mob on the boss monster, and instantly cleared the mob. I guess in later difficulties this would be much more significant, although I doubt if I could still dash into mobs and come out alive with a monk.
Yeah that's actually the skill set I'm using right now. Fists of Thunder / Lashing Tail Kick (Wave of Light is weak for me right now...not to mention I can use Tail kick almost 3 times for each time I use it) / The heal (whatever it's called...I'll switch to serenity when it gets the heal rune) / exploding palm / seven sided strike. Working with palm is pretty easy, it's just a 3-4 second DOT. I usually put it on a monster that is about to die (the strongest one I can find naturally)...then boom...huge wipes. Seven sided strike is probably my favorite skill in the game.
Just finished act 2, got my barb up to 25. Arranged my skills and passives so that my crit rate is pretty high, and got several pieces of equipment that gives +health on kills. With Cleave and the rune that causes the kills to explode, I'm just letting things group up, Stomp to freeze everything, then Cleave things apart and regain any lost health. Rinse and repeat. Only died twice, both times because I wasn't really paying attention. On to act 3.
latency issues for the win.... while playing singleplayer I hope other companies do not pick up this idea. Blizzard you really failed this time.
