Maybe because Obama himself didn't submit the proposal? but it is a dick move by the republicans

    And besides, from this:

Just because it represents the number, it in no way ensure it represents where and how deep the cuts will be in each sector. So why are people still pretending that what the Republicans submitted was EXACTLY the same as what the President proposed?

That sounds like a bad precedent for Executive decision making.

Republicans offered to change any numbers that Democrats felt were incorrect. The Democrats refuse to name what numbers they think are incorrect

Why are you pretending it's not what the president proposed? The Democrats haven't told you one number they thought was incorrect. Not one. It's obvious Democrats are lying about the numbers if they can't even say which number is wrong.

Firstly, I think the Democrats would obviously want to propose it on their own terms (imagine the firestorm if they approved whatever the republican proposed, since the republicans will be able to say they passed a budget), and secondly, it would be a waste of time to check every number on the floor. The article already says the white house one was thousands of pages long, to check it through with the republican one would be a complete waste of time. Far easier to reject it and just submit the one from the White House itself, rather than from the Republicans.

I'm just saying that just because the Democrats rejected this one, doesn't mean they outright reject the President's plan. Same numbers? Sure, but the same motives behind it? Absolutely not.

OK, I'll play. There's no way the Republican submission was a reflection of the President's budget.

First, it's interesting that the text for this bill is not on the Senate Budget Committee's website. You know, the committee that Jeff Sessions chairs. Thankfully, there is Thomas.

Let's look at DOE as an example. Here's everything the Sessions Bill said about DOE:

Every Department and Independent Agency gets the same one line.

Further down in the bill, we see this:
So, if Dems voted for this budget, they might be voting for Obama's overall numbers, but they would also be giving Jeff Sessions the authority to decide how those numbers are split up and allocated throughout the government. It would be the President's numbers with Republican priorities.

Thus, it is not and certainly would not be Obama's budget.

To further the point, here's just the Science portion of Obama's DOE budget:

    http://www.cfo.doe.gov/budget/13budget/Content/Volume4.pdf

It's 432 pages and goes into great detail about activities like High Energy Physics, Workforce Development for Science Teachers, Science Laboratories Infrastructure, Nuclear Physics, Advanced Computing, and Safeguards and Security.

I'm guessing Sessions wouldn't put as much money into things like improved laboratory infrastructure, alternative energy research, and science education as Obama. Furthermore, he would probably take money from this sector and move it over to give more subsidies to energy companies.

Again, there is no way the Sessions bill is anywhere close to Obama's budget. And looking at the numbers on some stuff, it seems even some of the numbers don't match up.

    Political stunt is transparent.

So the Republicans are going after Medicare for re-zeal? Replace it with private insurance?

Yeah, that's gonna work. Private insurance is SO affordable, and they pay for EVERYthing. Seniors will love that.

And everyone falls in line to look like they're unified?

Well, this should at least get some more Democrats into Congress.

Quite frankly it always puts a spring in my step when these desperate nutcases heave yet another Hail Mary that bounces harmlessly out of bounds. It further demonstrates their intellectual deficiencies and further underscores what a valiant job our noble President is doing in the face of recalcitrant and arguably treasonous opposition.

Sessions is a republican, and as the democrats have a majority in the senate, he cannot chair the senate budget committee. he is the ranking member.

    epic fail is transparently failure.

    You are one big idiot.

    Presidents don't produce budgets.

Congress does. That's their role in the gov't. No congressmen will ever vote for a Budget from a president. And Obama didn't submit a budget to congress even!

And they didn't even vote on his budget - the voted on whether to CONSIDER his budget which he didn't submit. Dems voted against it because its just a stupid waste of time. Rep voted against it because they can then go to the media to give fodder to robots who can't think to rebroadcast it in basketball forums.

Just please - do something. Read a book. Learn something. But stop posting idiocy. It's painful to read.

    This needs repeating.

[rquoter]Democrats disputed that it was actually the president's plan, arguing that the slim amendment didn't actually match Mr. Obama's budget document, which ran thousands of pages. But Republicans said they used all of the president's numbers in the proposal, so it faithfully represented his plan.
    [/rquoter]

This wasn't the President's budget. It was an interpretation that the Republicans offered.

For that matter if the Republicans thought it was faithful why did they put it up and then vote it down? That is the very definition of "Straw man".
