It's real simple. If the Lakers don't win it all this season, there will likely be major changes there. The absolute biggest change they could make would be to amnesty Kobe. If they traded for Dwight using both of their bigs, they could amnesty Kobe and create enough space to sign DWill. But better than that, they could use the threat of amnesty to trade Kobe to one of his preferred teams for cap space and talent. The point is if they trade for Dwight using Bynum/Pau, they could amnesty Kobe and create capspace to sign Deron. Will they do it or is Jerry Buss still the final say in LA and won't let it happen? The next question is if they actually amnestied Kobe instead of trading him (which would probably be the more likely scenario), then what would be his worth on an amnesty bid? $10 million for 2 seasons?? Would some team (New Jersey) bid the entire contract to have him on the floor and sell tickets?
Not happening. The Lakers will fire M.Brown and burn staples down before even considering moving Kobe. /thread.
No, but I'd like to see him finish his career with the Bulls. He is exactly what they need and I want to watch drama in the east.
he would have to sign as a free agent then i dont see the bulls giving up rose for kobe at this stages of their careers (despite rose's recent knee injury) and their next best players in noah, boozer and deng the lakers have gasol and bynum already -- deng would be a good trade piece but deng alone wont get it done of course. the lakers will stick with kobe through the course of his contract he simply makes too much money to get equal value talent wise back and there is no way the team will give up kobe bryant as a salary dump and get back a couple of 1st rounders.
Riots and loss of money would happen if they ever did that. They need to get rid of Pau Gasol more for money reasons.
1. Not happening 2. They're in so deep financially, not even a $28M amnesty will get them under the cap enough to chase a max guy. They'd have to decline Bynum's option as well, and the Lakers would never survive that PR backlash.
Explain how using amnesty on Kobe allows the Lakers to get D-Will or D-Howard. The Lakers are in salary cap jail and even cutting $29 million doesn't get them out. Ah, emjohn answered my question. The chances of them declining Bynum's option are zero.
You're trying to make sense out of an already unreal scenario in which Kobe Bryant would be amnestied. The bulls would then sign him for the MLE in this fantasy wonderland NBA.
Even as Kobe continues to decline as a player, the Lakers would cut loose the one player that people over the past two decades have recognized as the face of the franchise. Also, Kobe represents a lot more to the Lakers than just basketball. The guy is one of the most marketable athletes in the world and purely from a business standpoint it wouldn't make any sense to do so. They'll more than likely let his contract run out and decide from there. About 99.99999% sure he retires a Laker.
obligatory rockets trade proposal from homer fan: We should trade them Scola, Lowry, Martin, & PPat and pick up Bryant
Kobe has won more championships than Deron William/Dwight Howard put together. You could put the two together on the same team, and they probably still won't win as many titles as Kobe has or even titles Kobe may win.
You could put Kobe on a team by himself and he wouldn't win a championship. He's had the help of two HOF Big men to win all his rings. Shaq and Gasol.
Best part about all this is everyone in this thread has as many titles as Williams and Howard combined
