I injured my hand playing ball today (that's what she said). Not sure how it happened but I hit something really hard, possibly another persons elbow or hand. I think it was another persons hand because I saw him clasping his hand with his other hand nursing it and complaining how it hurts really bad a minute or two later. But not sure because I didn't think hitting another persons hand could hurt this bad.

Anyway, I finished the game but realized I couldn't play any more games. It was hurting like crazy and I tried shaking it off and playing but didn't want to injure it any further.

Basically the "outside" of my left hand hurts. Where the pinky meets the hand, and also the areas surrounding it. It hurt like hell and its hard to clench a fist all the way. I hope it is just swollen and not broken. I never had a broken hand before. When I got home I iced my hand for about an hour. After icing it, I'm able to clench my fist more, but not all the way like my other hand, and not without pain. :(

I contemplated going to the emergency room but decided to wait till tomorrow and see if I can see an orthopedic surgeon. Is there a window of time I need to get this taken care of?

Sounds like your hand is fractured. Hope it isn't, but it might be a good idea to get an xray just to be sure. Although, if you can do simple daily activites without causing too much pain and you're strapped for cash you could probably just let it go and let it heal on its own...just take it easy for the next 6 weeks and don't strain it.

Ask the 8/10 PF to do him a solid and hook it up with the Rockets medical staff.

But knowing them, you might end up with an amputated hand.

Probably a fracture, if you let it heal on its own the pinky is gonna be slightly crooked after depending on how bad the fracture is. My left index finger has a bump on the left side of the 2nd joint because of a previous fracture, but its barely noticeable from arms length.

Go see a doctor....but it could just be the muscle(s) that are acting up because of the impact and swelling. If you can't or won't go see a doctor, just monitor it for 2-3 days and see how its progressing.

He'd finger/fist her for hours with his fractured hand because he's like Kobe, doesn't feel any pain.

Same thing happened to me a couple of days ago when I was playing ball and went for a steal. I ended up hitting or jamming my pinky finger pretty good on some dude's hand. Same hand that I had a fracture awhile back. When I got home it swelled up too and I also couldn't clench a fist cause of it. There wasn't much pain, even when I fractured it before, I just iced it that day and took some Tylenol. The swelling eventually went down and now it's ok but still a little sore. I still played after the injury anyway but that's probably something I wouldn't recommend.

My thumb on the same hand though, where it meets the hand is pretty jacked up. Like 2 months ago a one of the guys I run with fell on that hand and the thumb bent back more than it should. I wrapped it up and playing ball with it a few days later. Just when it was getting back to normal a buddy of mines swiped at the ball from behind when I drove passed him and ended up accidentally hitting the same hand. It hurt like heck and instantly swelled up. And a couple weeks ago I ended up bumping it again. Now there's a huge knot there that probably won't be going away. :/
