sorry then. didn't mean to get attention. its jsut crazy. what will it take for rockets fans to show up and be like dallas fans or even portland fans...they show up every game no matter what. houston is a HORRIBLE SPORTS CITY ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY!
Your video is actually an example of the fans showing up. You picked the wrong video. You are wrong by saying that is video "proof."
Please explain how being in the NBA lotto for three straight years can be mistaken for "consistently contends" in the NBA Western Conference. I believe you have them confused with the Spurs - a team that ACTUALLY contends year in and year out.
I don't think the Rockets are a pathetic organization, but I do feel like their insistence on trying to build a contender tomorrow with the pieces that we currently have is a bit of a reach, as there are many teams out there that are better equipped to compete in the short-term. Perhaps, the Rockets could adapt their views on an idea that centers around building a franchise that will compete for the long haul (and this doesn't necessarily mean tanking per se). Instead of going after players like Nene or Gasol, perhaps, a player like Harden or Hibbert would make more sense as it gives you time and flexibility going into the future. Let's be honest here, the Rockets are nowhere near a state of contention and as such, should attempt to rebuild with a foundation that will put us in a position to compete for years and years to come. As MadMax had previously pointed out, the Rockets have only been in the playoffs 7 times out of the last 15 years and have only gotten out of the 1st round once. While, I wouldn't go as far as saying the Rockets are pathetic, to say the Rockets have seen much success in recent years is a bit of a reach. In a league where more than HALF the teams make the post-season, is it too much to ask that the Rockets field a competitive enough squad to get us past the 1st round and off the so-called, "mediocrity treadmill"? As Rockets fans, I think it's fair to be disappointed with the progress of that the team has made over the course of the last decade and a half. However, the most damning thing may just be the fact that the Rockets and Les Alexander's refusal to even consider other options that could also help the team in the long run (i.e. going the Thunder, Trailblazers, Bobcats route). The Rockets have a lot of options at their disposal, but they have to be willing to look at other options, especially when something just isn't working out as it has seems like the Rockets are simply running around in circles waiting for something to fall into their laps. I leave you with this quote: "Being a rockets fan is like listening to a broken record and hoping that at any moment it'll fix itself."
Who in the world exactly gives a **** about the Comets and Dynamo? The Comets don't even exist any more and the MLS is a joke to other soccer fans worldwide. I have friends that live in Europe that laugh when the US celebrates their women's soccer championships. Like I said earlier its like saying the (Insert whichever high school in whichever one horse town) went to state finals last year.
The Spurs only contend because they have Tim Duncan. Did the Rockets not contend when they had Hakeem? I am tired of hearing how great and well run team the Spurs are. Hogwash is what it is. It is easy to run a team when you have a franchise player like Duncan. Rockets did the same thing when they had a franchise big man. We shall see how the spurs contend when Duncan retires. They would be at best what the rockets have been since the Yao fiasco. Besides you are taking only the last three years as a sample , are you too young to remember the spurs previous to Duncan ? Rockets contended when Yao Ming and Mcgrady were on the team. My point was about being well run , its not the rockets' front office fault that Yao kept breaking his foot and Mcgrady went through menopause.
Good grief. You didn't mean to get attention? You came to a Houston Rockets fan site and started a thread with "Rockets fans have always Sucked" in the title. And you are so wrong in so many ways. Did Dallas sell out their arena back in the 1990's when the Mavericks sucked for almost a decade. If Portland supports their team, good for them, what other major professional sports teams do they have. Those empty seats at the beginning of Rocket games don't look great on TV, but the people who purchased those seats can show up whenever they please. If Houston is such a horrible sports city, then why do we have sports team owners that choose to put their teams in Houston. Houston sports fans support pro baseball, pro football, pro basketball, pro hockey, pro soccer, minor league baseball, pro golf tournaments, pro tennis tournaments, College sports for UofH, Rice, TSU, and HBU. Oh, and don't forget about all the high school sports that the people of Houston support. I think Houston is a pretty good sports town, and it certainly is not horrible as you claim. Houston fans may not blindly show up and cheer for a mediocre team with the zeal you desire, but I don't think that makes them horrible fans.
you can talk up the rockets all you want, but dont do it at the expense of the other 2 franchises.. the texans are on the cusp of being one of the better run franchises in the NFL, mcnair is a classy, smart owner who wants to mold his franchise after the likes of the steelers/patriots and not be a flamboyant owner like jerry jones. i dont care what people have to say about it taking 10 years to reach the playoffs, its took a few other franchises even longer to do the same, the texans were built from scratch and now are becoming a respected team. now looking at the management of the 3 teams, things look a lot brighter for the astros with jim crane and jeff luhnow taking over and the texans solidifying with kubiak, wade, and smith.. now i dont know how you think that a couple of championships from 17 years ago, means the rockets are the best run franchise is this city.. i believe morey is a great GM, but the rockets are a decent team in desperate need of a closer/superstar with no immediate solution to this problem.. theyll likely make a run at d-will and/or dwight howard next year but honestly will most likely end up relying on plan b which is something like going after gasol again and attempt to pair him with some second-tier star who they will over pay for.. the rockets need to be rebuilt, and every year they try to make the playoffs with the current roster is a wasted year..
How could we possibly suck? We are still watching and rooting for a team that has won...what....1 playoff series in 15 years?!
texans are run better than the rockets. rick smith is one of the best gm's in the nfl that doesnt get talked about alot, and morey isn't a top 10 gm in the nba
So a couple of championships from 17 years ago does not count but one playoff win in their entire existence counts. Seems to me like too many people on this board are of the "what have you done for me lately" mentality. Hey even in their past three lotto years they were better than the Astros during that same time. Did you forget that the Texans are a year removed from 6-10 record. One playoff win and all of a sudden they are one of the better run franchises in the NFL? Its not easy to just go get a closer or superstar in the NBA. OKC was lucky. For every Durant there is Michael Olakawandi, Andrea Bargnani, Andrew Bogut in the draft. There is no guarantee that by tanking they will land a superstar. The chances are just as good they get one via trade or free agency.
Houston fans tend to come out and support winning teams, especially winning teams that get into the playoffs and have success. It's been that way pretty much forever. I don't think the sport matters as much as the rest of it. The Rockets have rabid fans, including a bunch that live out of town, like yours truly, but many of them have a hard time affording the tickets, concessions, and so on. They'll spring for it when the team is successful, regardless, but it takes a while to "win them back." Let the Rockets get back in the playoffs on a regular basis, and win a series or two (or three, please lord!), and you'll see the Toy Box rock. Count on it.
This...This x10,000. People mistake the criticism directed at the organization for their abysmal recent history and playoff failures for "hatin'" or proof that the fan base "has always sucked." But the mere fact that we're all here discussing and debating the organization and what it's done or hasn't done on a fairly regular basis proves otherwise.
