He's right, they're in a salary cap mess.

He's not cheap, he's just not stupid.

How you got to the conclusion that Heisley said he was cheap from that article I'll never know.

    - heisley said:

    happy with season.
    braced for a loss.
    Hollins's job is secure

What point are you trying to make other than to hate on the grizzlies, which seems to be your only point to this thread.

What a terrible title and premise for a thread.

    Welll... whatever.

The Grizzlies are one of my favorite teams actually.

The headline was obviously not meant to be serious and yes, Heisley showed his coach all the support that he could have and said a lot of other good things.
He did call Hollins an asset though (the writer did anway), which is something Morey got killed for.
Also, while it may be smart not to go into luxury tax territory, Les Alexander would get killed for saying the same thing, so I don't quite get the two-faced approach.

If you're an NBA owner and want to win, yet are not willing to pay the luxury tax, then IMO you aren't fully committed. (And yes, it's not my money and I understand that the Grizzlies have been losing money on a yearly basis).

Heisley needs to move one of Gasol/ZBo/Gay/Conley to prevent luxury tax hell. ZBo's contract became untouchable for like the Nth time in his career. Gay is making max money. Conley and Gasol are movable, but then they'd be back to being a .500 team and over the cap.

This is what happens when you pay ZBo nearly 20mil a year, while spending top-5 picks on the likes of Thabeet and Mayo.

Nobody wants to pay the luxury tax anymore. It completely kills any flexibility.

Even Dallas and the Lakers are avoiding luxury tax

All grizzlies fans know that Heisley will never go over the luxury cap. This is not news. Heisley's been up front with everything for the last 3 years, ever since he was accused of salary dumping.

You'd be hard pressed to find anybody in Memphis that doesn't like or respect Heisley at this point. He also cut off talks with Larry Ellison because he kept making overtures to move the team.

Also, I think you misinterpreted "asset." He meant asset to the organization, not asset: as in a piece, pawn, etc.

Losing millions and millions of dollars annually just isn’t a sustainable business plan. With the stiffer penalties kicking in next year you can’t really blame small market teams for not wanting to get into that.

The funny thing is, 'what' was a huge ass yesterday when I brought up the Grizz luxury tax concerns. Now lookie here: “We’ve got to make some financial decisions.” It’s not inconceivable that the Grizzlies would move one of their higher priced players for depth and long term financial savings.

The only guy who is untouchable on the Grizz is Gasol.

Basically it's Gay vs ZBo on who to keep.

Gay would fetch a better return.

    So Gay it is.

Your point was different yesterday. Your point seemed to be that Rudy Gay's contract is an albatross and would be slashed at any cost so that the grizzlies could get out from under it. I strongly object to all of those assessments.

As far as this article is concerned, it only points out that the grizzlies won't go over the luxury cap, which isn't the same thing as what you said.

And as I said before, all grizzlies fans are well aware that our trailer is hitched to Gay, Marc and Conley and Randolph, and we are fine with that.

Gay+1st round pick for Kevin Durant.

Since they are almost the same player.

No, that’s not what I said at all, I came up with a way I thought the Grizzlies would be better and save money long term, which is obviously a concern for them. All you came away with was your r****ded “bwabwabwabwabwa Rockets fans thinks Rudy Gay = Anthony Morrow” without even comprehending what I wrote. You just don’t know how to read and suck at player valuations, so that's your problem.

We don't think Rudy Gay = Anthony Morrow...

...Anthony Morrow is one of the best shooters in the league. :p
