Name one player in the next 2 drafts that is going to be a better big man than Bosh that isn't Anthony Davis. Go.

agreed. but if you can't swing a deal by the draft, you have lost the leverage of having two picks to send out...which I think takes us out of the race.

for me Howard is the only game changer available. Bosh and Gasol are nice, but they aren't the best player on a championship team.

so if Plan A is Howard, Plan B is rebuild through the draft.

Fine by me as long as C. Bosh & this team wins one before LeBron that would really be icing on the cake, then Miami would be all shook up! lol

He's averaging that much? On a team with Bron and Wade?

I suppose on the Rockets he'd average a bit more, ay?

No one here is a fortune teller, but history indicates that you can occasionally find a good center in the lottery that slips past the top 5 teams:

    Monroe #7
    Brook Lopez #10
    Hibbert #17
    Hawes #10
    Bynum #10
    Perkins #27

And if Motiejunas is going to be our 4 of the future (cart a mile before the horse), getting Bosh (will not play at the 5) makes him DOA.

Next year's draft projects to have a decent number of centers. Get the center and rest falls in place. Get a better PF with no one in the middle and we continue to spin our wheels.

I am not expecting to be contending in two years bro. Even if we get Bosh next year we will not be contending.

big men take a long time to develop, so starting with the right physical tools and being put in the right situation to learn the game mean a lot.

so outside of ADavis - Drummond is the most intruiging prospect, and would be a good fit next to DMo (bruiser vs. finesse)

he would be in a good situation learning the post game behind the likes of Scola, Camby and McHale.

No leverage lost with those picks. Morey has talked to Orlando enough. He knows what they're after. He probably knows what their draft board looks like. There's been enough communication that going into the draft, our draft board is going to be aligned with Orlando's. And we will be seeking trades, etc., to get guys that Orlando would possibly want, which basically mean the best player available with superstar potential irregardless of position.

Orlando has to worry about losing trade leverage with Dwight on July 1. Because once DWill signs elsewhere, the trade value of rent-a-Dwight goes down significantly. As long as DWill is free and can sign, then Dwight's trade value is at it's peak. Orlando is going to resolve the Dwight situation by July 1. And it may happen draft night, but even if it doesn't, the trade can still go down in the next 2-3 days.

the DWill card is overstated. Orlando is going to deal with the team that gives them the best package period.

conversely, at the end of the day Howard is the best center in the league, which just so happens to be the most important position on the court. if you want him, you are going to have to get in line and pony up.
just because a team might be in the best financial position to sign DWill, does not mean they have the assets needed to swing a deal for Howard. netting DWill on top of any Howard coup at this point would simply be icing on the cake and not a just a formality as had been expected a few months ago.

The Reason? the Howard/DWill angle was in play only before Howard picked up his extension. by signing the dotted line Dwight forfeited all leverage outside of "I will on resign with X number of teams"...which isn't going to scare away a lot of suitors knowing they will:

    A) get at least a full year out of him (as opposed to only half, i.e., trade deadline)
    B) by trading for him, you can offer him far and away the most money
    C) you can still deal him at the deadline if he doesn't soften on his threats of not re-signing

I would really like if the Rockets would trade for Chris Bosh, but I wouldn't want to take on Mike Millers contract. I think if the Rockets do make a trade, it will be for more than just 1 superstar. I think there needs to be 3-4 teams involved in the trade. Possibly something like this.....?

    http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=d2lm2rv

Rockets: Chris Bosh & Pau Gasol

Heat: Kyle Lowry, Luis Scola, & Samuel Dalembert

Lakers: Tyreke Evans, Kevin Martin, & #14 pick via Houston

    Kings:
Mike Miller & #16 pick via Houston (NYK pick)

No team is going to pony up and go all-in on a trade for Dwight without either:

    1. A signed extension

    or

    2. The cap space to lure DWill to play alongside of him.

    or

    3. The ability to add him to a championship ready roster so they can go to war and win a ring next season even without assurances of extending from Dwight.

The Dwight/Dwill situation is at a new point.

i understand that we have to go all out for a talent like Dwight, but my concern is that he will not commit, and we will have depleted all of our assets and lost another year towards rebuilding. If you look at the odds of getting a deal done with Orlando, the odds of Dwight commiting long-term to Houston, and then the odds of attracting that 2nd superstar through free agency to be a contender, I'd say the odds are extremely slim that this becomes the path of salvation for Houston. I hope Morey is also lining up potential deals for draft picks because Plan B has got to be building through the draft, and especially because Plan A looks more like a pipe-dream than a serious plan.

thank you.. Bosh is highly undervalued, when someone is out he plays INCREDIBLY.. he cant play his game because Wade Lebron dominates everything and he gets the scraps.. Ill Bosh is a beast when featured and he'll be perfect with this talentedgroup of great role players, give or take an extra addition or two

The Rockets are one of the top 5 teams in the Dwight sweepstakes. And we may be the only team that can trade Orlando enough assets and take back enough bad contracts to get then out of cap hell and busting down the road to a very fast rebuild.

we should concentrate on our own "very fast rebuild". Somehow I don't think a one-year Dwight Howard rental does that.

I think everyone wins in a deal for Dwight.

If he stays you have a cornerstone to build a championship around. (anti-tank)

If he leaves, you have depleted yourself to the point where you are in the discussion for a top 3 pick (pro-tank)

I am 100% on board with you for Plan B.

you can't deny Bosh's talent, but you inadvertantly described most people's problem with acquiring him (or Gasol)...he isn't an Alpha. he can't be your best player if you expect to win a championship.

I know it won't happen but the best thing for both teams would be to deal Lowry, Kmart, Dalembert and (Parsons or 1st round pick instead if Miami will take it instead) for Wade, Mike Miller, and Joel Anthony.

    Why Miami should do it...
With Wade and LeBron together they end up taking turns on offense because they both need the ball in their hands to play well. Trading for this package from Rockets allows them to put the following team out on the court which doesn't have the star power but a team the works together well.

    Lowry/Chalmers
    Kmart/ James Jones
    LeBron/Parsons/Battier
    Bosh/Haslem
    Dalembert/Turiaf

    Why Houston should do it...
It would hurt to let that much talent leave especially if Miami insists on Parsons but this is what it takes to get a superstar and reshape the team. Also, it allows Rockets to bring back Dragic at the salary/playing time he is looking for.

    Dragic
    Wade/C.Lee
    M.Miller/Budinger/M.Morris
    Scola/Patterson
    Camby/Anthony

and possibly add guys like PG Kendall Marshall and C Meyer Leonard in the draft. This team won't compete for a championship next year but it would have room to add a big time player in the following offseason. 2013 free agents include D.Howard, Bynum, Al Jefferson and Milsap

i think the heat would want to keep lebron and wade happy, right?

the reason all of them are in miami is because they wanted to play together.

trading bosh doesn't make any sense for them.

Exactly, until both guys give them permission- it's not happening.

Also, how bad would Miami look then? Wooing a guy over (a move that probably kept Wade there and convinced Lebron to come over) and then trading him? The organization and Pat Riley would be blacklisted.
