Would you be happy or sad if the Rockets resemble the Pacers in a couple of years?

For a guy who has superior ideas in regards to the middle east and politics in the other forums ur opinions on the NBA are awful.

So you are asking if I would be happy or Sad if the Rockets turned out to be the 3rd best team in their conference and best team in their division? If I would be happy or sad to have 5-7 All-star caliber players playing with great team chemistry (Collison, Hibbert, West, Hill, George, Granger, not so much Hansborough) on my team with a borderline superstar leading the way (Granger)? You know I think I would be terribly saddened if the Rockets turned out to be so terrible...

I would very much like to resemble Indiana. They seem to be appealing to free agents too..Eric Gordon publically expressed interest in playing there. Don't be surprised if they land a superstar sooner or later that mixed with Granger, Hibbert, George, West, Hill, etc. would put them in the elite class right know they are a team that's going to play Miami tough in every game but come up just short (like last years Bulls team)

Gordon is from Indiana and also played ball there in college for one year. That's probably the main reason he expressed interest.

Yes, they were horrible in 2008. Leading the team in scoring, shooting 60 and 67% from the field on their way to the gold medal, anchoring the best D in the tourney - not sure how much more I can recollect without puking due to their absolute putridity.

Am I the only one here that thinks Rox is BETTER than the pacers?

Yeah, pacers are in the playoff semis, they have a way better season record than Rox. But they ARE playing in the east. And the only head to head game resulted in a Rox win.

The Pacers play hard and compete. However, they will have some tough decisions to make with Hibbert. He is above average but they have to decide if they are financially all in with him, because if they are not, someone will.

George is 28 and not getting any better.

George looks promising, but he isn't special yet.. And by the time he is, he will want to get paid.

I'm not saying Gay's a world beater, but they also got him as a gift for "intangibles."

Getting #14 pick for Rockets means a good, competitive, winning season with talking like "trying their best to win", "improving the team every season, every trade", "never tanking", "winning to rebuild", all fancy stuff.

Going into the 2nd round playoff for Pacers meaning mediocrity.

    lol.

No way is Granger a superstar. Anybody with eyes can see that. The basic and advanced stats back it up as well. And you talk about us being homers...

The only thing is that, at any given, time there are only 7 or 8 "Batmen" in the NBA. So all the other teams should be tanking every season?

    Frustrated.

You play to win championships, not to be a 50-50 team that makes the playoffs only because they're in the East.

The Rockets are better than the Pacers, Sixers, Knicks and Atlanta. Being a 45+ win team in the east is a joke. I mean every other night you play an D- League team. You get the Wizards, Bobcats, Raptors, Nets, Bucks and Cavs all four times a year. That's 1/4 of the season that are gimme games.

In the west even our terrible teams are pretty good. Golden State, Portland, Pheonix and us would have competed for home court in the east.

No I want to be an OKC or SAS or MIA or LAL. Not an IND/ATL who are guaranteed to make the playoffs every year but maybe win only a series or two. Some of you are real complacent with mediocrity.. While I agree IND is still young and has cap space, etc, I don't feel they are really going to make any changes beyond this to become a better team.

    Correct

    and correct.

Strive to be an OKC or SAS or MIA and have championship aspirations.

Nope, the Rockets goal is to just make the playoffs. Wow. "Our goal is to the make the playoffs." Really?! Really?! Simply making the playoffs as an 8th seed is good enough? Geez, high expectations you got there. That sounds and seems so short-sighted, just like everything else they're doing or trying to do.

So the Rockets single season goals are short-sighted? Genius.

It's very eery how similar the Rockets and Pacers are. The rockets are basically where the Pacers were a couple years ago. Riding the treadmill of mediocrity, collecting assets, and opening up cap space.

The Pacers were very patient, they drafted young talent, were able to hold on to their players, made a couple interesting low-key trades, acquired solid free agents, and still have some cap space to add a piece this summer.

This is everything the Rockets are trying to do..we just need to improve our overall talent level of our younger players. Pat pat is not a Roy Hibbert, but Clee can be compared to George Hill..Parsons to George. We really need to move up in the draft so we can get a nice young player.

We need to get rid of Scola and Martin ASAP, and do everything we can to grab that Blazers pick for Lowry.

You are absolutely right about there only being around 7 or 8 "Batmen" in the league at any one time in the NBA As of right now off the top of my head they are as follows:

    1. LeBron James
    2. Derrick Rose
    3. Kevin Durant
    4. Kobe Bryant
    5. Dwight Howard
    6. Dwyane Wade
    7. Chris Paul

and you can argue your case for the following two:

    8. Carmelo Anthony
    9. Dirk Nowitzki (getting old)

Sadly, but surely, the top players are all on competitive squads that are or will be in the race for a title the upcoming years. If you aren't on an elite team (etc Heat, Thunder, Bulls (before Rose went down), etc.) already you will surely find your way to an elite team (see Chris Paul and soon Dwight Howard).

Obviously, if your team is a player away from contention, then you do everything you can to get the player you need, but when you are a team like the Rockets that has too many holes to count, you are probably better off gutting your team and starting from the ground up. In other words, the Rockets should be focusing their attention on a young, talented franchise cornerstone. Since, as both you and I know, these "Batmen" don't exactly grow on trees and the chances of prying one of these megastars from another team is slim to none, the Rockets are better off tanking there chances in the draft. Having a superstar is absolutely pertinent, especially in today's NBA climate, where stars are gravitating to be with other stars, brighter lights, and bigger markets. I think it would be in the best interests for the Rockets to tank. It probably wouldn't take much for the Rockets to be a playoff team (like the Pacers), but the jump between a Pacers team and those elite teams is a pretty BIG one.
