Not one of these guys is better than Lowry IMO. Some are close and some might be better in the future, but as of right now Lowry is the better than all those guys.
Goran Dragic - The player that most of this board is hoping to keep over Lowry. Right now, Dragic is probably slightly better across the board than Lowry in almost every category. That already knocks the list down 9 or 10. Higher ceiling players: Rubio, Wall, Lin, and Curry, in fact if injuries weren't a problem. I'd take most of those players over Lowry. Every one of these players are probably greater scorers than Lowry, except Rubio. Lowry cannot shoot like Curry, and he doesn't have Lin or Wall's play-making ability. Their passing abilities are a little closer, but I don't think Lowry is the best of this group, in fact the only person I would give him nod over in this department is Curry. Everyone else is slightly or a couple notches, better. For some reason, I do not think Lowry will improve a whole lot versus the other guys who I think improve tremendously over the next few seasons, if they avoid the injuries. Another player that he is about equal footing with: Mike Conley Jr. - the player who he could not supplant in Memphis. Honestly, I think Houston fans would say Kyle Lowry is much better. Memphis fans would say Conley Jr is slightly better. Neutral fans will say that they are about even.
Very true. Its just going to come down to what team picking in the top 10 views him as a missing piece. The teams projected to be in the top 10- 1. Bobcats 2. Wizards 3. Cavaliers 4. Hornets 5. Sacramento 6. Blazers 7. Warriors 8. Toronto 9. Detroit 10. Hornets Of these teams, I think Toronto at #8 makes the best trade partner out of the mix if a deal can make sense. I dont think NO will give up the #4 pick for Lowry, but they would be dumb to not trade the #10 pick for Lowry. That being said, the player that the Rockets have projected at that spot could very well fall to them at #14 anyways. Toronto at #8 seems to make the best sense of the bunch, with Sacramento and the Blazers being long shots. The Blazers could be in play, but they also are obviously targeting Dragic on July 11th. Sacramento seems to project I. Thomas as their future PG and he's on a highly valuable contract for the next few years. I dont think Sacramento will be that perflexed in Lowry. -I think a deal along the lines of- Lowry + 14th pick for Amir Johnson + 8th pick that is for the rights of Perry Jones III, John Henson, or maybe Sullinger makes sense for the Rockets. Gives them a high upside prospect in someone like Jones III and some front court help off the bench going forward with Amir Johnson.
According to Clutchfans, when Lowry was playing he was close to being an allstar and should have gone to the allstar game. This is what we were all saying during the break. Even some of the TNT crew were saying it. Now all of a sudden, he's not close to being an allstar and he has no trade value. (sigh) Clutchfans.
Lateral enough to get some star power. Basically the only teams who want lowry are A. Way over the cap/ cheap teams B. teams who need a facilitating pg As you look at most teams they have decent pgs or better than Lowry It's odd because a few seasons ago I felt that a good pg was hard to comeby. Seriously did a lot of players just improve dramatically or pgs from the draft really picked it up. When we had rafer we prob had one
The move would make the team better, but not by much. IMO, there are only a few PG's who are better than Lowry. I don't think it is as many as everyone thinks. Now, i am willing to bet that we could get a decent draft pick for Lowry. We could probably get Portlands two lottery picks with the package deal that you mentioned earlier. As i mentioned sometime before, there was a rumor that Portland was thinking of trading out of the lottery.
The way I see it the guys who have the most trade value are: Louis Scola, Kevin Martin, and Kyle Lowry. You could also package Patrick Patterson to go along with any of those players.
Your correct in both aspects sadly enough. I dont think he has "NO trade value" but its a buyers market, and there just isnt that many teams that are in a desperate need of an all-star calliber PG that is anything shy of Chris Paul. I think every team in the NBA would love to have him, but a team that is trading for him will want to have him as their starter. Lots of teams already have a commitment to their guy as the starting PG. Teams arent going to give up major assets for a player that will be their backup when they can get a solid backup in free agency pretty easily. If the Rockets are serious about making Goran their man going forward, then they will have to accept much less than market value for Lowry. Others on CF are overreactive with a short term memory of how great Lowry was both last season, and in the first half of this season. I understand that and dont want to side with their stupidity (not naming names or anything). If there is no deal to be had for Lowry, and Goran is commanding way too much in free agency we might have Lowry going forward as the Rockets starting PG. If thats the case, Im more than comfortable with him going forward, but I think Goran could be slightly better. Only slightly. I dont know if they value a slight upgrade at the PG spot going forward over having the flexibility to upgrade elsewhere on the roster or not. Its going to be interesting to see what happens. In a perfect world scenario they are able to get great market value in return for Lowry to a Eastern Conference team, and resign Dragic to a fair deal. The basketball gods havent really been kind to the Rockets in the past 5 seasons so Im setting my expectations based on reality in this situation.
Good Insight. Although, I do think we could get the Hornets 1st pick (Bradley Beal) for Lowry, Martin and our 14th pick. Then we would have to bring in Llull over to the Rockets. If he has decided to stay in Europe for another year, Boykins can play the backup position fairly well.
Improving from the draft, point guards take a second to develop. They start to get really good around year 3 to 5. Most of those point guards were also drafted high, top 15 picks. If a point guard comes out of the gate averaging 20 and 10 per game, then you might have a future hall of fame player on your hands. That's an aberration, almost never happens. Oscar Robertson came the closes 30 ppg and 9.7 apg.
Thanks. The Hornets are an interesting partner to trade with for sure if they are in the Market. Given the history of the Rockets trying to get in the top 5the last few drafts(09 w Rubio/10 w Cousins/11 w Jonas V.)they have had alot of trouble getting a team to budge to get that player. Its going to be tough, but it just has to do with how close the trading team thinks they are to competing for a title. If they are still in a rebuilding mode, anything short of a Lebron James wont get you into the top 5 in trade. If they value Lowry + whoever else as missing pieces around the talent they already have then you might be able to pull off that kind of trade. I dont think New Orleans would consider Lowry + others on this roster as anything that will get them back in contender status anytime soon unfortunately.
I have always been wondering if Portland is willing to give rockets 6th, 11th, and both second round picks for those four players right there... that will be a total rebuild for rockets, and the rockets will finally have someone who plays in the "Rising stars" rookie sophomore game.
All reports are that Portland is viewing Dragic as the perfect 1/2 combo to matchup with Aldridge. Im not sure that those role players mentioned really fit into their plans of building around Aldridge.
yeah, I understand there are all those reports saying Portland will try to get Dragic in free-agents. Why would Dragic choose Portland over Houston when rockets are commit to trade Lowry and make Dragic their starting PG. So I think as soon as Rockets start saying they want Dragic to be their future PG, and Lowry is leaving. Portland will get nothing. On the other hand, if they keep their draft picks and they pick Harris Barnes, Perry Jones, and two other second rounders, are these 4 rookies better than Lowry, Martin, Scola, and Ppat? Not only for now but will they ever be better than the these established players from Rockets?
Exactly. Why would Dragic leave when he hears that the Rockets wasnt him to be there long-term pg? Then we just got to find a way to get Bradley Beal and a young center.
$$$$ and Portland could end having a better overall team than the Rockets, after the offseason. Two top 11 draft picks with Lamarcus Aldridge, Nicolas Batum, and maybe another free agent or two. Remember, Portland does not have to pay a boatload of money to have two highly touted rookies coming on to the roster. Those 4 rookies may not be better than Scola, Martin, Lowry, or PP, but if one of them turns out to be a future all-star. Portland will be regretting that for years to come. Some of those players they have a chance at is Bradley Beal, Jeremy Lamb, Thomas Robinson, Harrison Barnes, and a long shot at Drummond. With the latter pick, they could grab Kendall Marshall or trade it, but they may have a high asking price. The Blazers do not need Scola or Patterson. They have a starting power forward, and if they decide to bring Hickson back or go after a free agent. That would be a waste of deal. I'm thinking Blazers are wanting to build a contender and not a mere playoff team. If they fail to get Dragic, there are other options and they could go after during free agency or via trade.
I am coming in late but here is my take on the subject. In the point guard centric league that is today's NBA I would say Lowry is worth at least a Lottery pick. He is better than George Hill and the Pacers gave up a 15 for him so Lowry has has got to be worth something in between 14-8.
