Kyle's trade value is pretty good, he is an above average starting PG on a very reasonable contract. And he is locked in for 2 more years. The question will be whom is in need of his skillset and what will they pay, Sacremento might be a viable option for him - you might get their pick....but the league has a lot of PGs as good as Kyle or better - it is not like the center position which is depleted, there is a lot of good PG depth. DD
Yeah, he does, and like I mentioned before, Its a buyers market, and there just aren't going to be that many buyers at the table come draft day. The buyers that do come to the table will probably have just as much interest in trying to sign Goran Dragic on July 11th. Why give up your top pick, or good player if you could just get the better PG in free agency a couple weeks later? This might be one of those draft days similar to 2008 (Donte Greene pick) where the Rockets go through the draft without making moves, and end up making deals after free agency starts to align with how the dust settles with Goran. They might actually be able to get better return for Lowry if they wait till after free agency since then teams will know for sure what their Needs are going forward, and there might be more than one team that really covets Lowry. All the Rockets need are two highly interested parties to get good return. Should be very interesting to see what happens with the Lowry situation on hand, but I dont think its going to get resolved on draft night. It might have to linger on until around the start of training camp.
Another thing that does not bode well for us . .. Dragic is not the only solid point guard who is headed into free agency. There are roughly 5 to 7 who could start and play at high level. Realistically speaking, a solid team is not going to give us an all-star, just save cap space at point guard with Lowry unless it is a package deal. Kyle Lowry's true value lies between the perception of (most) Clutch Fans and the perception of NBA fans who do not watch the Rockets to what most GMs probably figure about Lowry. This is going to be an interesting summer for the Rockets with the draft picks, who stays and who goes, and whether or not this team gets a group of player who can reach a solid playoff spot. With Lowry, the Rockets can't and won't trade him until they know they can resign Dragic or think that he can net a certain type of player in return.
Break down Lowry - to me this is how I believe he is viewed. Pluses: Great competitor Good rebounder for PG Above average team defender Very smart Good 3pt shooter Great in transition offense Good passer Minues: Shorter than ideal Not all that athletic or laterally quick Doesn't beat his man off dribble well Midrange game is lacking Not great at running half court offense Gets beat by most PGs in one on one situations So, what does that all mean? Not much really, just my .02....but I think that is how folks view him - at least that is what it seems like to me. DD
It's a buyer's market only if rockets HAVE TO sell, and rockets will only CONSIDER selling Lowry if Dragic can be retained for a reasonable contract. It's far from a buyer's market. Most likely Dragic will go to another team with long term lucrative contract, and rockets will not trade Lowry unless it's for a superstar or #1 pick(anyone after Anthony will be a stretch to be an allstar, while Lowry is already at that level pre injury). The only other possibility is to get rid of Scola's contract. Lowry is an allstar level player on cheap contract, and he's still young and improved every year consistently. With some rest after the post season injury, he wil go back close to the triple double machine.
I disagree with this, I don't think he is an all star level player, nor did he improve this year either....I think he peaked last year. DD
How can you say he has peaked when he is 26, played as a starter only for one regular season and nearly one shortened season.
IMO, He doesn't have the athleticism to get much better. He is not going to jump higher, or get quicker - he can get better, but to me, he is getting about as much out of his skillset as he can....maybe he can get a little better, but to me, I don't see him getting that much better. He is an above average NBA starting PG, and that is not too bad...he might make an all star game a time or two, that is pretty good. But I believe that Dragic is better in almost all ways, he has a lot more upside, and is not undersized nor lacking in lateral quickness. Plus I like left handed players a lot, I think that is a major advantage. DD
Fair enough, the record with Dragic as starter was good to the point when the team broke down. You can argue it wasn't on him but I think you overrate certain players. Dragic is a good player himself. You view him as a star. He could not take the team to a much better record this year. That is a fact. I still think both are good PGs.
You are incorrect here, I don't view either as a star, I view them as about equal in production, but that Dragic is quicker, taller, a better ball handler and one on one defender.... So to me, I think Dragic has more upside - doesn't mean he is a star, but he might be, and I don't think Lowry ever will be..... I would bet against both of them ever making star status, BTW...but to me, you keep the higher upside guy and jettison the one that has shown to have a poor attitude, and is showing signs of entitlement issues..... That - is lowry, IMO. Just my .02.....you can feel differently.... DD
Very well if he has upside he should prove it one more season. You don't normally pay him 8 millions because he had a good promising stretch. When it counted the most in the last 8 games he did not step up his game enough to get us more wins. He got figured out by opposing teams. I give him Lowry's contract, a tad more at best around 6.8 millions It's not how I feel because we can always overpay him... and he might be worth it someday but to think there won't be equal PG talent in the draft is not being realistic
Arguably, not definitely. He's definitely Not better than these guys category Chris Paul Derrick Rose (Can omit for the sake of the argument) Deron Williams Tony Parker Russell Westbrook Steve Nash Rajon Rondo These guys are slightly better Ty Lawson Kyrie Irving (that's already 8 to 9 spots) Gray Area (where Kyle Lowry lies): Stephen Curry Jose Calderon John Wall Jeremy Lin Ricky Rubio Goran Dragic Raymond Felton Andre Miller Ramon Sessions Jeff Teague Mike Conley
Yeah, embarrassed on an internet message board, about opinions.....that will really be a terrible decision....ROFLMAO ! DD
