As far as Lowry's trade value goes, it's not like he carries a whole lot of it. You'd be hard pressed to find a true NBA fan who'd tell you he's hands down better than Ramon Sessions. I don't think we can get a top draft pick or a stud player for him. Don't get me wrong...I think we can move him and get nice value in return...just not top flight talent. What do you think?
Its not as high as posters on clutchfans make it out to be. You can get a guy like lowry for lowry. He's a good value, but no team is going to offer up a all star caliber player for him.
You can get a good draft pick for him. Let's aim for that. Or he can be part of a trade to net a midling All Star type.
As with many on Clutchfans, you have somehow decided Kyle Lowry sucks based on a couple weeks of post-illness play when he was clearly really struggling to find himself again, and ignored everything he did last year as well as this year pre-problems. I will direct you here for full-season win shares of NBA point guards and leave it at that. I'm not going to fight the tide of "Dragic >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lowry" sentiment but I'm going to say you don't trade Lowry for nothing just to clear him out. At worst he's still a young, league average starter. At best...we were talking about an All-Star bid on February 1.
Outside of CF realm, people are still believing Lowry is more valuable than Dragic. Dragic is coming to his own but it's not like he was outplaying him when Lowry was fully healthy. Actually Lowry was never full healthy as he stated the hernia and groin were causing pain most of the time.
He won't get us a superstar obviously. But his value is worth more for teams that are in the luxury tax and need a good point. If he were a unrestricted FA now, I'd guess his market value would be around 8 mil. But his current contract of 6mil means Lowry would be worth 4 mil more (2mil difference + 2mil tax) than a PG at 8 mil for a team above the cap. In 2013, for a repeat offender of the cap, that 2 mil difference would be worth 7 mil (2 mil + 2.5 x 2 mil=7). If the Lakers hadn't picked up Sessions, the Lowry + a bunch of assets for Gasol deal could possibly make sense since the Gasol/Bynum is a bit redundant. I'm guessing Morey will be looking at teams above the cap that need a good PG.
Trade "value" doesn't mean anything. Its a buyers market, and Lowry's market value is way less than his real value. Meaning, its basic supply and demand. With the influx of top notch Point guards in the game right now, almost every team has a starter quality, if not all-star level PG on their roster right now as we speak. there are only so many teams out there looking for a franchise PG. Those teams are also the same ones looking to sign Goran Dragic in the Summer. Why would you give up assets when you could just make an offer to Goran on July 11th instead? So how many of those teams are going to be looking to on the market for Lowry???.... one, maybe two. Lowry might have... lets say a top 7 draft pick value, but your banking on not just one, but more than one buyer on the market that will bid on getting Lowry in trade. The Rockets can find a buyer for Lowry, but is it going to be the value of what he is worth???? Probably not. If the Rockets are serious about choosing Goran vs. Lowry going forward, they need to realize that they aren't going to get fair mkt. value on draft day. If they get anywhere close in a deal, they should pounce on it. Its a very limited market. That being said, Lowry has one of the best contract out there on the market, and any NBA team would love to have him. Its just going to come down to whatever buyers poke their heads out on draft day to inquire about him.
Lowry is worth a 6-8 pick. But no team would actually do that trade with the Rockets. They prefer to gamble and hope that pick turns out to be a slam dunk. Most don't. Personally, I prefer Lowry over Dragic. The only reason I am in favor of trading Lowry is because we cannot trade Dragic. It does not make sense to keep both when we are so weak at other positions. So it makes sense to trade Lowry and sign Dragic since we can offer him the best contract.
You dont think its going to be an issue going forward sharing the PG spot when Dragic is getting paid much, much more than Lowry? One of them has to go.
LOL what a fail by the OP. Lowry's barely better than Ramon Sessions? Really? What did Sessions fetch in the open market? I don't really remember, he got traded for scraps. Comparing Lowry and Dragic doesn't really make sense, we have both guys so Dragic's market value has zero impact on Lowry. As far as Lowry is concerned, his "value" is measured by this deal: Scola+Lowry=Gasol. Alone, he's probably worth a top 10 pick in this year's draft, and its not hard to see why. Lowry isn't an allstar player, but he's pretty close, how many pgs out there can hit 3's consistently, play great defense and can create for their team like Lowry does? He has no holes, which makes surrounding him with good players really easy to do. Personally, I like him and Dragic better than Parker, Rondo or any other 2nd tier pg out there, esp. since Lowry is locked to a 6M contract while Rondo and Parker are making almost twice that amount. If you already have a star in place then he'd be the perfect sidekick, his contract will allow you to place other high caliber players around him.
I agree, one of them has to go, but its not because of Lowry's contract. Rather, Dragic only seems to suffer from a confidence issue when the starter is looking over his back. In PHX, he exploded when Nash got injured, but then played like an above average backup when Nash came back. Same thing here, when Lowry was out Dragic played like Lowry ver. 2.0, but when Lowry came back Dragic's play downgraded again. I think MGT has to decide which guy they want long term and deal the other away/let the guy walk.
if like i hope we resign dragic, let's get a high draft pick for lowry, in the 8-12 range i guess, with 3 high picks we could build through this draft and let our guys grow together
I must spread some reputation before giving it to you again..... Now this is some sense you are talking...
