They probably thought not cutting it off would have more risk and could lead to further damage or something.
**** its hurting like a b**** right now, i cant go to sleep. Cant bend my toe completely like before.
My sister had one when she was in HS. I kid you not she squeezed at her toe and i sam dang near every color of the rainbow of puss coming out of her toe. It was extremely nasty.
I once had an ingrown toenail on my left big toe that got horribly infected. I went to the doctor and all she could do was prescribe me some heavy duty antibiotics and refer me to a Podiatrist to have the nail removed once the swelling started to go down. I was 20 years old, didn't have any insurance or spare money for medical procedures, so... I waited until I had gone through about half the course of antibiotics, then bought a bottle of whiskey and went to town on it with an exacto knife. I still have all ten toes, but that toenail's never looked the same since...
I call this the Ken Caminiti method. I remember a story during Caminiti's second stint in Houston about Caminiti taking out an ingrown toenail with nothing but a pair of pliers. Then again, sometimes stories about Caminiti come off as stories about Bill Brasky.

Well all the doc did was give me prescription drugs and told me to come back tuesday so he could remove the nail for a lot of money. I'm having doubts now because my aunt is telling me to just leave it alone and says I don't need to remove it because the doc just wants to get money off of me. She said I should just take the drugs and I will be fine.
I'm sure this is why all the fools waited until the last minute. They thought they would "get better"
Get it removed. He will cut the ingrown part out and put medicine to prevent it from growing into the skin again. A piece of your nail may grow up (in a different direction) at the spot of removal, but it will not be into the skin and can be easily clipped going forward. It's worth the relief.
You should listen to your aunt so that in a few months you can tell us which you miss more...... your ex-GF or your ex-big toe
