Didn't realize that JD's opinion was the rulebook. (And if it's more than his opinion, show me.) If you attempt a bunt, you pull back and make no other motion... it's insane for that to be anything but a bunt, should it hit your bat.
didn't seem like his opinion. makes sense to me though. by pulling back a bunt, you aren't attempting a bunt. unless the umpire also was using his opinion, what other reason could he possibly have called that a regular foul? surely you have enough faith in him and the crew that all three of them understand that a fouled bunt on a 3rd strike is an out, and there was a reason that they didn't call that an out.
Go astros to .500! There was great pitching by Norris plus the pen tonight. Myers has been lights out and excellent plays like Lowrie throw to home contributed to nice win! Go Astros!
How about that... the Astros find themselves in 3rd, and the Brewers find themselves in the cellar with the Cubs.
i'm still pissed that we're moving to AL and will be for some time but this team not sucking is taking the sting out of it.
The home plate ump felt he was out, since he originally called him out. I think he should have been out. He pulled that bat back right when the ball got there.
Gotta give those Rangers just a little bit of respect. Back to back visits to world series is pretty good. They lineup feature one of the best hitters in Josh Hamilton and also have a nice pitching star in Yu Darvish.
Oh, I didnt mean to disrespect them. In fact, it will be a tall hill to climb for sure. Thats what will make competing with them, and one day beating them, all the more satisfying.
Less than 12 months ago virtually everyone who cares enough about baseball to comment in here would have told you how much brighter the future looks for Pittsburgh than for Houston. Amazing how quickly that changed.
they unloaded all of their players for prospects a few years ago and seemingly struck out across the board. i feel bad for their fans. doesn't seem like there is a whole lot more that they could have done, and i don't see their situation improving appreciably any time in the foreseeable future. it looks like we won't find ourselves in the same predicament, and it appears our new front office drastically increases the odds of avoiding a similar fate, but we are far from out of the woods. keeping my fingers crossed that the ship continues to be righted, and that we are competing for perennial playoff berths soon.
I'd just like to thank the fine Front Office of the Pittsburgh Pirates for signing the great Clint Barmes. Without you, we'd have one less draft pick, and possibly still have Mark Melancon and Barmes instead of Lowrie and Weiland.
i don't think there's really a grey area here. if it's a rule, it's a rule, whether it logically makes sense to us or not. apparently, intent is all that matters in this case (assuming the call was correct), and, once you are determined to be attempting to pull back the bunt, it is no longer considered a bunt attempt.
Ups and Downs, Matt that is, is in the lineup tonight. Given he is 3 for his last 24, another guy in need of a offensive breakout. http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/30111/matt-downs
