Let's sign him for the max, then banish him to the D league. That would show him, for talking smack about us.
It's all good. I hate when I type explain instead of Scola. Happens quite often. In fact, all of the letters are all together so it happens.
Uh, requesting doesn't really mean he'll get offered that amount. Hibbert is not a MAX player, so what if other big men are overpaid? We can draft a 7 footer with one of our picks and then reserve our capspace for Gogi and other players who are just plain better than Hibbert.
I don't want to offer a max to anyone outside of James Hardin. Max contracts are not for above average centers who made one all-star team. I would rather save it until James Hardin is a RFA and give it to him. Hardin is a top 5 sg now, and thats coming off the bench.
In my opinion Hardin is the superioir player. He is a top 5 shooting guard and much more worthy of a max deal. Hibbert is vastly overated right now he isn't even a top 5 center. Howard, Bynum, Marc Gasol, Chandler, Horford, Nene, Gortat, Al Jefferson, probably even Demarcus Cousins are all better than Hibbert. He is not a max player
Needs to be more aggressive and he would be a beast. Not worth the max right now imo, don't think he's a bigger game changer for your team than McGee, Jordan, Cousins or other guys. He has the potential to be a way better player, but right now he doesn't let your team feel or benefit from it. Giving him the max would be based purely on hopes that he develops a killer instinct in the next one or two seasons and tries to dominate every game.
Frankly I don't even think this is worth discussion. Indiana will match anything and he is on record as saying he is not pleased with us due to the D-League issue.
i wish i can change my statement after reading these comments about hibbert hating on the rockets. too late now. oh fucking well.
if you give him the max, you're paying him for what you think he may one day be. That's not a bad strategy but I do wish we had a better track record of developing bigs of late. Thabeet, Hill, and Patterson were all projects and none of them really took a step forward during their time with us. Most of the blame went to the players' lack of motivation (thabeet and hill) or injury (patterson) or lack of a training camp. those are all true, but i don't think it explains the whole story. so to get back on subject - no i wouldn't give hibbert the max to play here. but some other team will give him either the max or something close, and indy will match.
we all know he's not a max player, but he's definitely one of those players who'll get max offers just cause how rare a skilled big man are nowadays. and he aint even close to being a dominant center.
i'd give him 12-13 mil in a heart beat..I think with Mchale he may be able to develop into a very special player. He won't be dominate, but we can run the offense through him and it will take a lot of the burden off our perimeter players. Indiana will match anything and everything for him.
give Hibbert the max, and try to bring in Beasley for 7-8m on a 3 year team option contract. Would love to see them two pair up in rocket red if Beasley can get his life in line.
the Center position is pretty washed up… If you want a top 5 center you must pay for one.. and Hibbert is a top 5 center.. Also, if we aren't gonna spend money to put together a top flight roster then we might as well just expect to be a #9 seed every year.. Sign Hibbert, and shoot for Harden next summer and fill in around them..
