I 'm talking of the modern comics of course, but by all means don't let that stop your ineffective use of sarcasm.

You guys keep mentioning characters that should get screen time....on the Sci-Fi channel

    Hawkeye
Black Widow (why the hell she fighting space creatures with two regular guns)
    Fury
    Ant-Man

Those guys can not hold there own on the big screen and will do more harm than good.

The only two guys left who can hold their own for sure Hulk and maybe Black Panther (Idris Elba).

All Marvel has to do is sit back and finish out the trilogy of : Hulk, Iron Man, Capt A, Thor, and Avengers.

Hopefully , at the conclusion of Avengers 3 they will have made enough money to buy back the rights to X-Men. Then you look into any of storylines the X-Men have.

DC NEEDS to hit a home-run with Superman and then reboot Green Lantern. Aquaman movie would do well on the big screen

    Random thoughts...

    ****

Joss: Hey Jeremy, take a look at this.

    Jeremy: What is this?

    Joss: Go ahead, open it.

Jeremy: What is this? A Nerf gun?

    Joss: Pick it up.

Jeremy: Wait a minute. Is this.. my.. weapon??

    Joss: Yes! Isn't it cool?

Jeremy: This thing weighs like one pound!

Joss: Look! See, you give it this little flick and it sort of pops open! How cool is that?

Jeremy: I don't think that's how bows work Joss.

Joss: But it has its own case! See?

Jeremy: I'm being punk'd right? Come on out Ashton!

Joss: (lowers his voice) Look, this is what we have, and it's your job to make it not look stupid.

Jeremy: I better get an Academy Award for this. Because this thing is r****ded.

Joss: Don't worry, nobody's gonna notice.

    *******

And Thor. Don't like his costume. Not because it's a bad costume as such, but because it doesn't seem to match Hemsworth's body type quite properly.

In the scene where Thor is pondering what to do about Loki, and how it seems that there is no way to dissuade him from his course of action, and Sam L. is about to say 'I'm asking, what are you *prepared* to do?'.. and Thor is standing by this big bay window gazing out into the darkness, maybe it was just the angle of the shot, but Thor's head looks way too big for his body, especially with those big flowing locks.

And it struck me, it's the design of the costume, particularly the chest - it seems to be designed in such a way as to make him look kind of shrunken. I know it's nit-pick, but it makes him look kind of small, instead of this mighty Hulk-level strong Demi-God.

And what the heck is up with his helmet? Everyone else in Asgard seems to have a helmet - Loki, Odin, but Thor's iconic helmet with wings? Totally missing. I think he should have had it on, at LEAST during the final battle, especially since he did that thing in the meadow where he held the hammer up and his armor started to 'grow' or whatever. It could have appeared there.

    *****

The enemy 'army' is kind of lame. I don't know how it could have NOT been lame, given that a whole advanced superior army is supposed to be defeated by a small handful of superheroes, but still. They are a little too nondescript and feeble. Flying jet-skis? Really? I dunno, it wasn't BAD, but it just seemed a little too much like standard video-game drones to me.

*** Meh. If that is all I can find to complain about, then it's a pretty darn great movie

SyFy pisses me off with that
they would rather spend money on ishty movies like ROCK MONSTER

You think Aquaman would translate well?
Would most of it happen underwater?
Not sure folx ready for it yet . . . .

I suspect if they do . . . . Marvel immediately counters with a Namor Movie

I don't think Green Lantern needs a reboot. Just move on to the next story.
The origin stories are always the weakest because. . mainly you know it already
not that it is done. . time to get interesting

Just thought of something else, I also hate crappy foreshadowing. When Cap and Tony were arguing, and Cap goes "You're not the kind of guy to put his life on the line for the team!" I knew right there, well, at the end of the movie Ironman is going to try to sacrifice himself for the team.

I agree with Green Lantern. It wasn't the best superhero movie, but frankly DC superheroes seem boring for some reason on solo movies. I would like a Justice League. They already have Superman, Bats, and Lantern. Now they only need to make Wonderwoman and it's on.

Maybe after that in the distant future, we can have a DC vs Marvel type of movie. Then have a DC vs Marvel vs Dragon Ball movie.

Technically he puts his life on the line several times. The first suit he's wearing gets severely damaged when he gets caught in the helicarrier's rotors. He attempts to destroy the portal alone, then attempts to kill everything coming through the portal alone. He then confronts Loki alone...later comes the nuke naturally. I see what you're saying though.

So I caught something yesterday when I watched it again for the 3rd time.

When everyone has gathered on the ship for the first time, right before Loki breaks out, Starks and Coulson walk in with Starks saying something like "Why don't you take the weekend off and go to Portland? I'll fly you out." to which Coulson agrees to. Someone else in this thread brought up the notion that the Coulson that dies could have been a life like model that Starks brought up early in the movie. I don't know, after hearing that dialogue I just can't convince myself that he's dead and Starks and Fury know it.

Not to mention everyone risking their lives when they brought Bruce on the ship.

Sucks that agent Coulsen had to be the one that bites the bullet. Wished ole' Nick would have gotten a head shot via Hawkeye, then have his head explode.

The LMD thing was me; that'd be cool / funny if that were the case. Normally it would bother me, but I really enjoyed Coulson's character. I could also buy it, because why else would Coulson go after a god by himself, with an untested weapon (especially since he seems quite experienced, see: him addressing the Destroyer in Thor). Just a fun thought I suppose.

What's LMD? Are you guys suggesting that wasn't Coulson who got shafted by the staff?

    You should spoiler your post.

It stands for Life Model Decoy; basically a robot clone of someone. They're very common in the comics, and Stark cracked a joke that he was a LMD when on the phone with Coulson at the beginning of the movie. Yes, we're implying that maybe it wasn't really him that died. I mean it more than likely was, but they could always retcon it later (wouldn't be the first time). Plus...if it were a LMD it should have had robot innards (technically)

I don't think that was any sort of nod to Coulson making it out. It was developing Stark as a guy begining to care for someone other than himself - we start off with him not being on a first name basis with him. I'm 99.9% sure he's dead.
Aside - I definitely took the "cellist in Portland" references as a subtle hint that he was gay. They took care never to mention gender. Add in his man-crush on Rodgers.
Not saying it's a bad thing at all, of course. Just another example of Whedon being very subtle in his subtext (Widow's mini-breakdown being another).

Fury, Hawkeye, and Widow are all almost certainly going to be secondary players in CapAm2. I agree that they would struggle to carry a solo franchise. At best, you could attempt a Shield movie...but I do think that's pretty much what Cap 2 will be.

Ant-Man is going to be a half-campy comedy that takes a more irreverant approach to Super Heroes. If you're familiar with Edgar Wright's stuff, you should enjoy what they're doing there.

I don't know if Avengers 3 is going to happen with the current cast. It'll be no less than 6 years out, and more likely 7.

Feige's let it be known that Marvel isn't planning on buying back any of the rights, but will wait for the franchises to eventually come back home. When they're thoroughly outgrossing the X-Men films and saturating their schedule, why fork over half a billion (or more) to get back the other film rights? Marvel wants to make money. They're making plenty. They aren't so concerned about getting the Fantastic Four/X-Men/Spiderman "right" that they would clear out their capital to get them back.

I've virtually given up on DC. That is a case where they need to consider buying out the WB interest and partnering with someone else. Unfortunately, Time Warner owns DC, so that split's virtually impossible. And WB's has proven to be the poster child for studio meddling. It's amazing they can't figure out that Harry Potter and Nolan's Batman are glowing examples of how to do things right. But there they go, killing themselves with Green Lantern and endless infighting over Superman.

Personally, I think they'd do well to invert the Marvel formula - screw the origins that everyone knows. Start with a Justice League movie, and then spin off from there. It blows my mind that DC has a treasure chest of iconic figures, but can't get their studio in order to capitalize on them. Pathetic.

I thought that joke was pretty funny but others didn't.

Was 'Avengers' joke cruel to adoption community?

    By Courtney Garcia, msnbc.com contributor

Disney’s “The Avengers” has earned almost universally positive reviews and made $200 million in its first weekend. Yet for some in the adoption community, a joke in the film goes too far.

The joke is at the expense of Loki, the film's villain and adopted son of the god, Odin. Loki's brother Thor defends him to fellow Avenger Black Widow, who then points out that Loki’s “killed 80 people in two days.” Thor then replies, “he’s adopted.”

As noted in a petition created by Jamie Berke on Change.org, “According to your scriptwriter, the fact (Loki) was adopted is the reason he is a bad guy!...Being adopted is not something to use for the butt of jokes! Marvel, immediately cease using adoption as the butt of jokes AND issue a public apology to the adoption community!”

    Advertise | AdChoices

Berke points out that she is not asking for a boycott of the film, though others have suggested it. Instead, she is requesting an apology.

In an interview with MovieFanatic, actor Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, admits he didn't get the joke at first.

"The line where I say, “He’s adopted.” I had no idea that would be funny," Hemsworth told the site. "When we shot that, I went, “Is this really funny?” But, that’s the thing. Joss is hilarious. The whole film, I was surprised how the comedy in it played so well."

But did the joke go too far? Chuck Johnson, president and CEO of the National Council for Adoption, says it's not clear-cut.

"I understand both sides. I think we do need to have a sense of humor about these things, but at the same time there are jokes that can hurt feelings,” Johnson told msnbc.com. “People who make movies are trying to be funny and I don’t think they realize how it will be perceived.”

Johnson, who is father to an adopted son, observes that adoption has been a recurring trend in comic book tales -- Superman, for one, was adopted -- and perhaps the line should be analyzed in a larger context.

“The adoption element is brought in a lot, it’s become a common theme in comic books and fantasy, and it’s usually portrayed very well,” he says. “The only problem I would have is that (the joke) feeds into the stereotype that adopted children have a pathos that turns them bad or hurts people. In that sense, I don’t like the joke, but I would use it as an opportunity to talk to children about stereotypes.”

Matthew Rodriguez, a writer for the Sundance Channel and an "Avengers" fan tweeted after the film, “My mind is still blown over how MARVEL-ous The Avengers was ... although I DID NOT APPRECIATE THAT ADOPTION JOKE, THOR.”

He later tells msnbc.com he did laugh at the line, but it's still a cause for concern.

“As an adoptee, I didn't have a problem and chuckled at Thor's line. However, at one point in my life as a younger person struggling with identity issues, I probably would've felt some discomfort with it,” the writer explains. “Being adopted is a complication that can come, varying from person to person of course, with a baggage of additional issues that non-adopted people never have to worry or think about. ... While I personally wasn't offended by the joke, at the same time, as an adoptee, I also deeply understand why some would (be).”

Nevertheless, he agrees that humor shouldn't have limits.

“Comics have the right to poke fun at whoever they want and I don't think adopted people should be off-limits, he adds. “I say this both as a minority (Korean-American) and adoptee.”

I think y'all are reading too much into Coulston's (SP?) character. The bottom line is that he's not all that important. Who cares if he died? Who cares if he comes back? He's a non-factor and the studio knows it. He's done folks.

It's always fun to muse; the character is a bit bigger than you realize. Since his appearances in IM2 / Thor he's become a character in the comics / cartoons. Gregg does the voice for the cartoon and it looks like him. He's the principal / Agent Coulsen (principal being his secret identity) in the Ultimate Spiderman cartoon.

You may be right. Didn't even realize they had ongoing Marvel cartoons. I'm really surprised Avengers has been the #1 Marvel book too.
