Hibbert >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>JaVale McGee
Thread should be over. He actually came out and said it. Not worth discussing further. Not to mention Indiana wouldn't let him go.
If we were going to get Hibbert, I would have preferred it to be earlier in his career when CD + could have had the most impact.
Centers with offense and defense don't grow on trees. We can't always get things at fair market value. Sometimes you gotta splurge. I can see Indiana matching because they have ample cap room. If a team that was gonna be cheap and above the cap matched for gasol, it's a no brainier Indiana would match.
LOL @ posters being all picky like a lil' spoiled princess when giving Hibbert a big contract. this is a league where C's pick teams and not teams pick C's. you either pay up big or you lose out. all this "omg 8 or 9 mil max or i dont want him!!!" outcry is just gonna be mercilessly subdued when you hear he's been given 13 mil per year 5 years.
No. The deal is we need to rebuild. Getting Roy NOW, at 12 million/the cap is "being competitive."(at best) There could still be some upside, but not the kind of breakout we need to justify a move like this....I agree we need a 5 that can defend the paint and crash the boards over major minutes, but what's the timeframe? This move just insures a decent record/ticket sales - no room for future contention.
Hibbert doesn't make the Rockets championship contenders so it makes no sense to pay that kind of money only to get marginally better. If the Rockets already had a superstar, things would be different.
I see Indiana matching any offer, max included. Would I give him 14 per year? Yes. Smart center with great size, good touch, decent footwork, 25 years old and good work ethic. Not a franchise player but neither a true MAX salary. Probably a future 15-10, an all-star center. For me it worths 14 millions. Now for a moment imagine him next to Bosh or Stoudemire...
Someone made a point b4 about the Lakers committing millions to Hill because he still has room to develop. That Houston was impatient. I say the timing is PERFECT to offer Max to Hibbert. We waited for him to develop on another team. Now it is time to show him our commitment, financially.
maybe morey will pull a buzzer beater and get somebody good like he did with getting camby last minute
This dude is a shotblocker as well didnt he have 10 blocks againist the Magic he is a hard worker And was an All-Star this I say sign him to whatever, i cant wait to see Hibbert, Parsons, and D-Mo on the same team, plus 2 new rookies
Offering a max deal for a young center with skills and room to grow is a no brainer if you are a team like the Rockets.
Honestly anything right now sounds good to me. If you offer him near max and then James Harden near max. Then have money to go after a full max player as the third player? That would be a great defensive team and scoring team.
just sign a legit starting C first and re-sign Goran...and we can fix the rest of the roster for 2k12-2k13 season
centers are always overpaid. $8-9 mil there's basically no chance of signing a player of Hibbert's caliber. He's not a star but just take a look of some of the most recent center signings, DeAndre Jordan at $10 mil per year and Nene at $13 mil per year. Hibbert is leaps and bounds better than DeAndre and is already better than Nene (4 years younger as well with a higher ceiling). Realistically though, the Pacers will match any contract for Hibbert.
