Does this mean Jordan needs to be on a team with 3 all-star caliber centers before he can be successful? It seems that having Bynum and Gasol doesn't seem to be enough. Perhaps if the Lakers can get Dwight Howard for nothing, we can truly see the full power of Jordan Hill.
Not sure, but I think it is further proof that he is just not big enough to play center - which we learned about Scola and PPat this year too. DD
Hill played PF with Bynum for 11 minutes last game...only 9 minutes without Bynum, but those 9 were with Gasol. I suppose Gasol is not big enough or good enough to play back-up center for Bynum.
That's really Hill in a nutshell, and why we let him go. Sure, there's a slim chance that a light bulb will go off in Jordan's head and he'll suddenly play to his potential every night, but the history of the NBA could be written in the ashes of failed players with high potential that never lived up to it. Jordan Hill, up to this point in his career, could be the poster child representing all those who should have been good, even great, and just didn't have it going on unstairs, and I don't mean upstairs at Macy's.
So basically, if we can find Jordan Hill a team with 3-deep center rotation, so that he'll never have to play center, he'll be an effective player. Can't believe the Rockets ditched him, rather than simply acquiring Howard, Bynum and McGee to complement him.
This is interesting, perhaps you should notify the Los Angeles Lakers who played him almost exclusively at center next to Gasol, Josh McRoberts, and Troy Murphy, durign the regular season. http://www.82games.com/1112/11LAL17.HTM
Well, you must be talking mostly about the 2nd Q then. Hill only played 6 minutes in the entire second half....only 3 of those without Bynum. So, obviously his coach knew it was one of the games where Hill should stay on the bench most (if not all) of the 2nd half.
I was watching in the 2nd half stopped watching when they got down by 15...and Hill was in there with Gasol, and playing center on D. DD
FWIW, Jordan Hill's playoff stats against the Nuggets ended up being 5.4ppg/7.3rpg/39%shooting. His Rockets stats this year, if you stretch it to the 20mpg he was getting in the playoffs, would've been 6.8ppg/6.3rpg/50%shooting. And for good measure, in his normal playoff 20 minutes of play against the Thunder, 4 points, 6 rebounds on 40% shooting. It's pretty amazing that Jordan Hill, who probably could've made an extra million on his next contract for every good game he has with the Lakers, decides to do his usual disappearing act yet again. Which probably means the guy is simply not good enough of a basketball player right now. Rather than just a mental issue. As of right now, it seems Morey's pretty smart in cutting cord with Hill.
Don't know what's wrong with him... loss of family members, crack..... right now just an ordinary bench guy
Hill is just what he is. Not sure why some people think he is playing better with the Lakers. He is still quite inconsistent. He is still a marginally decent backup player.
You cant teach two things- -Bad Hands for a big man -Consistent effort I love Jordan's talents, and wouldn't mind if they were able to bring him back at the right price next season if LAL pass on him, but he is a flawed big man for those two main reasons. He still has value to a certain team, but like other big men in the past like Kwame Brown, Miki Moore, etc. He's probably going to float from team to team based on immediate needs at that present time. Not too many teams are going to view him as the future. He's going to have a long career and Im going to root for the guy, but he is who he is now.
So now that we've watched him play with a better team, what are the odds that we get a better player with the Laker's pick?
No Lakers pick. They aquired the Dallas Mavericks pick that the Lakers aquired in the Lamar Odom trade. That pick is top 20 protected until 2018 when it becomes lottery unprotected.
Thanks you for the clarification. I had forgotten the details. I know with the uncertainty, it is a tough question to answer, but I doubt it ever turns into a top five pick. Call it a 21st or a 14th, it seems we will need a little luck to get a player better than Hill. I really don't think we lost that much giving up Hill, I am just wondering what we are likely to receive.
They would have lost him in the offseason for nothing...the odds are that the pick is better than nothing. Unless they use it on Vasilis Spanoulis.
