Why shouldn't it be legal? FT shooting is part of the game. If you are weak at it, why can't the other team take advantage of it? How is it any different from daring bad shooters to shoot jump shots rather than giving them the lane to drive?

Whether hack-a-whoever really works is another question. If you use it early, you put the other team into penalty faster and it will put you in disadvantage. And it works only if the player shoots close to 45%. Anything higher wouldn't be worth it because normal scoring efficiency is about there.

It shouldn't be legal because you are punishing a team for doing something good (getting the other team into the penalty early). If they had a choice in whether to shoot FTs or inbound the ball, that'd be more fair, but then it wouldn't allow teams to prevent stalling at the end of games. So letting the fouled team pick the FT shooter on off-ball fouls makes the most sense to me.

Plus, it just makes for a terrible product to watch.

It should be legal because if the other team can't do something basic like put players on the floor that can hit FTs, they deserve the consequences. Shame on NBA players that shoot <50% from the line.

One compromise might be to extend the off-ball foul penalty from 2 mins left in the game to 4 or 5 mins left.

I thought there was a new rule in the CBA to prevent Hack-a-Shaqs?

    ??
    WHy would there be?

The CBA is about financial issues, not on court rules.

IIRC, rule changes come out of the competition committee

It's a lame rule that takes away from the sport. I'm not just saying this because the Clippers are hurt by it-- years ago when Dunleavy was coaching he used to use hackashaq all the time and it's just annoying, even when it works. Who wants to watch bad FT shooters go to the line ten times in a row? What Mark Jackson did in the Orlando game this year was a ******* disgrace.

This series shows you how important it is to have a superstar on your team. Chris Paul can help a lesser team to beat a better one all by himself -- his clutch plays and ability to get superstar calls. You need stars to win in the playoffs. Simple as that.

I don't think the clippers are a lesser team. While the grizzlies boast a lot of on-paper talent, the fact of the matter is that Reggie Evans has outplayed both Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. Kenyon has also stepped up to guard Rudy. Nick Young has been better than OJ. Deandre has controlled the paint.

The grizzlies, minus Rudy and Conley, have been thoroughly outplayed. There is absolutely no excuse for Marc to be playing the way he is playing. He's getting pushed around.

The grizzlies right now are soft. So they deserve to lose this series. It sucks because I don't really care for the way Paul and Griffin flop all the time, but that is what it is. We could have shut them up but we didn't shut them up and it's our own fault.

I dunno, I'd love for the Rockets to have Marc Gasol and Randolph. Hell I'd take Rudy Gay too...

Hollins NEVER calls plays for the man, wtf is up with that? Get him the damn ball on the block and let him work. Even his 15ft set shots are silky smooth.

Sure, he hasn't been aggressive enough, and Evans has exploited him at times. But let's not forget the refs are letting Evans get away with murder in the paint.

The grizzlies could be a team that can do that. The clippers KNOW that they have been stealing games from the grizzlies all series.

Also, the grizzlies nearly won BOTH games at staples. So, I don't know. This series ain't over, by a long shot.

Gay is looking like a ballhog out there.

Gasol is on your team, AND on the court. Give it to him.

The grizzlies have so many advantages and weapons. It's unreal how the clippers have beaten the grizzlies 3 games already.

I hope this is a sign that the grizzlies aren't going to worry about flopping and contact.

The Clippers make so many insane shots that look like they should be misses.

The Grizzlies are able to make use of all those advantages when they use their main advantage: their big men.

When Rudy Gay is pretending to be Kevin Durant, the Grizzlies lose every time. Hollins should slap Gay every time he tries to go McGrady on the team and impose his will on the game (which he can't do).
