Her father was crazy. They called him the "Mad King". He liked to set people on fire.

Interesting, most of the wildfire we saw earlier this season was ordered to be made by King Aerys II.

    Possible spoiler:
During the rebellion, the Lannister's had pretended to pledge themselves to the Targaryen's. When Aerys let them inside King's Landing, the Lannister's sacked the city. Aerys gave a command to ignite the wildfire that was stored beneath the city, opting to burn the city and everything in it rather than handing over his throne. But Jaime Lanister, who was in the Kingsguard, killed the pyromancers and then Aerys. That's also how Jaime got the nickname "Kingslayer."

Tywin was the Hand to King Aerys. He once tried to marry Cersei to Rhaegar , Aerys' first born son and Dany's brother (one of the dragons is named Rhaegal after him). The Targaryen's married brothers to sisters but Dany had not been born yet and Aerys had no other daughters. Rhaegar was instead married to a Martell and Tywin was offended. That was part of the reason for his betrayal of Aerys. He wanted Cersei to become Queen and saw that he was able to accomplish that by helping Robert overthrow the Targaryen's. Viserys often blamed Dany for Aerys' and Rhaegar's death, believing that if she'd been born earlier, she would've been married to Rhaegar and Tywin would've never been offended and never betrayed the Targaryen's.

lol, why would you spoil such an important part of Jaime's backstory that's almost certainly going to be addressed in later episodes?

Is anyone else put off by Dany and her righteous threats when she isn't getting her way? I don't care if she is as "rightful" as anyone, and if she does or doesn't have people that would bow to her and her stolen dragons' rule, she's freaking irritating. She acts 13, but looks 27. I like her less and less. Maybe she's supposed to be not likable, but even so, I think it's for the wrong reasons, at least for me.

She is supposed to be 13. But they made all the children older in the series.

That being said, i never liked her, not in the series and not in the books. she is annoying

What? That he killed King Aerys? They brought it up in Season 1. Jamie and Ned had a conversation about it when Ned first got to Kings Landing. I guess he does elaborate on his motivations later on. I'll edit my previous post.

Agreed. I think that is why I like Varys and Little finger
cause all the rest of them sound so .. arrogant and entitled

Watching the Stark kids go through it . . . and them being
more humble than the rest is why I like them too.

When Catelyn showed up and Rob introduced the girl to her, I was waiting for her to recognize her as Jeyne... to the point where I was surprised when she didn't.

I thought she already let it be known that she was on the Lannister side? Maybe I misunderstood the exchange between her and Roose Bolton when he says 'Surely one of our men needs your attention more than this coward' and she replies 'Your men are not my men, my lord'.

Talisa is a neutral field nurse, there only to care for the wounded, regardless of side.

I kind of hate that so many people don't like Dany. I mean, everyone has their own opinion, but it was in this season's book that I really grew to love her as a character. Admittedly, a big part of that was for something that hasn't yet happened on the show, but they are definitely portraying her as more petulant than I remember in the books. Perhaps that's just for more of an impact for later on events.

The reason I do not like here has nothing to do with the tv series. I didn't like her in the books either. (How often can a person say "I'm just a little girl", I read the dutch version so maybe they translated it differently).

I don't recall her saying that, certainly not often. If anything, Dany hated being thought of as the child she was and was more likely to say "I'm NOT a little a girl. I'm Queen Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, Mother of Dragons, and I will take back what it rightfully mine." Or something like that.

Even if true, the statement that you think she says is even more annoying and repeated much too often.

As a non-book viewer, the Daenerys and Jon Snow story arcs are the most boring because they've practically gone nowhere in 1 1/2 seasons, as in they have not affected the major plot for the Iron Throne. They are too isolated from the rest of the story.
