From a PR standpoint, it reeks of desperation to spike the ball over Bin Laden, especially when most voters believe any President would have made that same decision. The President is getting bad campaign advice.

This is very dumb. I'm half white and half black. Who I was raised by and where I attended school does not determine my race.

Funny, I'm half Korean, half German, never considered myself much different from any other German (as I grew up here), so pretty much the opposite of your self-perception, despite a similar racial background. In fact, I don't think I had given my racial background much thought before I had to fill out surveys in the USA to indicate my race when getting the Texas Drivers License. I don't remember having been asked any question like this in Germany. Sometimes my friends joke around about it, calling me the tall Chinese dude or something, I don't mind or care, I just give them a ribbing back about whatever.

 

I think racial attitudes are vastly different in the US than Europe. Germany is predominantly one race and one culture. The US has always been a hodgepodge-with (I think) race being a heavily emphasized trait.

 

Yes, but shouldn't that mean that race would be less relevant if it was a true melting pot? (and conversely, someone being of a different race would "stand out" more in Germany?) Seems to me that people care less about it in Germany than in the USA. Or perhaps Germans are just more sensitive about asking question like that because of history.

Let's tell this to all the uber-conservatives who plaster bumper stickers on their cars showing Obama caricatures with a truly fried-chicken-and-watermelon smile. Don't tell me it's just me.

I would be more mad at myself if I actually fell for one of those pictures. 2 reasons really, 1 that my humor was at such a low level that I found that funny and 2 because I lacked a basic ability to reason.
