they get the No1 pick. The first Pick would be Davis which means a better chance that Dwill will sign his extension. Starting Five for next season: Lopez,Davis,Wallace,Brooks,Dwill. Playoffs!!! Then Free Agency 2013: Dwight Howard or even Bynum. Starting Five: Howard(Bynum), Davis,Wallace,Brooks,Dwill. Championship condenter!!! I know a lot of "IF's" but not impossible.
I think if they land the #1, they immediately dump it for Dwight. Davis has a bright future, but most likely he'll never be the player that Dwight is now, and Howard is the only way to keep Deron.
Rockets could be the team of the future if 1. They trade for Dwight Howard and he signs an extension 2. Deron Williams joins Dwight. I know a lot of ifs but not entirely impossible.
Humphries contract expires at the end of this season and Lopez at the end of next season. If Wallace would agree to sign for less then would be enough money for Howard left and I don't think the Nets would dump the No1 pick for Howard.
Lopez is a RFA right now. He will probably sign a 4-year offer sheet in the range of $50-$60 million(or more) and the Nets will have to match or lose him for nothing.
Any team could be the team of the future if they land the #1 pick. ... ... I can't believe I had to write such an obvious statement.
Like I said it depends how the lottery will go for the Nets because their pick is just Top3 protected. If they loose then like you said the Nets would sign Lopez to an offer sheet. Then in 2013 they would try to get a sign and trade deal with Orlando done.
Like I said, they're not going to be able to keep all those guys in that scenario. Lopez and likely Wallace will have to be gone. And they aren't signing Lopez to an offer sheet. Some other team signs him to an offer and the Nets have 3 days to match that offer. Then they are either stuck with Lopez' contract or they let him get away for nothing. Wallace is another story altogether. He is unrestricted. He can sign anywhere. And he just opted out of the last year of around $11 million. He's looking for one more long-term deal. I suspect somebody ponies up and gives him $35-$40 million or so on a 4-year deal and the Nets let him walk away. Worst case scenario, he's gonna get at least $25 million over 4 years. That's a significant salary and between that and Lopez the Nets won't be able to sign Dwight as a free agent. If Deron signs, the Nets have two choices: 1. Clear out all salary to sign Dwight in the summer of 2013. 2. Attempt to get the Orlando Magic to deal Dwight for Davis and Lopez (after re-signed). And that is only if DWill re-signs there. If DWill walks away, then the Nets have virtually no shot at landing Dwight. I suspect Morey is going to put the Nets on the spot as soon as free agency begins with a substantial offer to Lopez. This forces the Nets to pick a direction to go in. The draft order will be known by then, so it will be known whether or not the Nets get Davis. So, if they don't get Davis, their best hope is to try to entice Lopez to agree to a S&T to Orlando and to try to entice Orlando to accept those terms. However, if Morey steps in and offers Lopez a contract, then the heat is on the Nets to make a decision on which direction they go in as a franchise. Let's say Morey offers Lopez $52 million over 4 years. That means if the Nets match, and they re-sign DWill, they gotta find 8 or 9 guys willing to sign for one season like Kris Humphries did last season. Because between DWill and Lopez, that is $30 million in salary leaving them with only $28 million or so of cap space to work with for next season and $20 million of it needs to be one-year deals so they have the cap space to sign Dwight after next season. That means they have to sign a whole bunch of guys to one-year deals. Who is going to do that? Complete utter league trash. It will be DWill and Lopez (if healthy) running up and down Brooklyn all next season with D-leaguers. Do you really think Dwill wants to do that, jsut waste a whole nother season?? I don't see it working for them frankly. Orlando has already said they don't want Lopez. Now NJ doesn't have a pick unless they get top 3. I think it is a longshot that they get #1, are able to draft Davis and then are able to do a deal with Orlando sending Davis to the Magic. It's a longshot at best.
davis wouldn't keep dwill around. Davis is like a 10-9 guy next year, infact brooke will be better than him next year. Obviously davis is going to evelop, but he still has a bunch of work to do so he is not going to keep around dwill who wants to win now. Smart thing if they keep the no 1 pick is Trade it for dhoward and make a dwill dhoward deadly combination contending. Clippers in my opinion should've traded blake griffin for howard too. You lose excitement, but they'd be front runners for the title with paul/howard combo
That is my only hope that Howard could sign with us. He wants to play with an All Star at PG. If we can develop Lowry or Dragic(if he signs) to All Stars then there is a little chance to get Howard. But we have to get rid of some of those huge contracts we have. For the lottery I just hope the Nets can keep their pick and not loose it to Portland.
How in the world does D-Will not end up in Dallas? It has been rumored to be pretty much a done deal. Possibly if the Nets get the number one pick they could trade it for Dwight, and then keep Williams that way. I don't see any other scenario working out for them.
