congrats to the idiot forum nazi who thought this was a serious post!! I was just seeing how long it would take for someone to go rabble rabble rabble!!. You win sir!
I would like Lowry to stay & let Dragic walk unless we get great value in the draft or he brings in an all-star caliber player. I believe we'll sign a PG to a 1yr deal or trade for one with 1yr remaining on their contract to have room on the roster in hopes that S. Llull comes over for the 2013-14 season. But I agree, hopefully we can trade the players you listed including C. Budinger to really improve this team for next season.
Right. In the past couple drafts the Rockets ended up not having to trade down a few spots anyways because Patterson and Morris ended up falling a few spots on their draft board. They had both of those guys ranked higher on their board and it was noted that they were planning on trading down for Patterson a few years ago and were chearing in the draft room when guys like Cole Aldrich were drafted instead of Patterson. You can make a move on draft day if it comes down to it, but the way that teams draft, the guy you have at 10 might very well end up being that at 14 anyways. No need to plan on using your best trade piece this Summer to move down to 10. Now if Lowry gets the Rockets in the top 6 or 7.... hell yes you do it.
Maybe those guys that are No. 6 on Morey's boards are just mediocre prospects to begin with..... so they fall to the 14th spot I know we are good with 2nd rounders but we did not have that much luck with late lotto picks or late first rounders. No allstar or star talent so far. Let's say if we hit someone like Rondo - 21st pick that would be a winner.
Morris at 14 seemed like a steal at the time. Jay Bilas had him ranked #5 on his draft board. Thats a little high, but at the time Morris was close to winning player of the year in College basketball. We've seen this time after time with great college players who struggle finding a role their first few years in the NBA. Morris really was always viewed as more of a project at the NBA level, and still to this day could still go in the lottery. We need to give him another year or two before we can accurately judge how good of a pick that was or wasnt. Patterson at 14 was a good pick, but not a homerun that we all wanted. Looking back at that lottery, be thankful they got Patterson and no some of the other scrubs that ended up around the same position in that draft. That turned out to be a terrible draft. Morey has only really had two lottery picks in his time as GM or in the front office for both teams. It really has yet to be seen what would do with a top 6 pick, but what we do know is that the 3 players they tried to trade for the past three years in the top 5 were Rubio, Cousins, and Valenciunas. I personally think Morey would do just fine with a top 6 pick. -Oh, by the way.... Rondo was Morey's pick when he was in the Celtics front office it was well noted that he really had to sell Rondo to Ainge because they wanted nothing to do with him due to his poor shooting.
Don't get me wrong.... I still believe Patterson and Morris could be solid and even beyond that but I don't think people are going to watch mediocre seasons after mediocre seasons. Those players need their time to develop but I think Rockets need someone that is ready like Chandler but with even more upside for fans to cheer We should really walk.....that path, screw the record, screw the 8th spot without Home Court advantage as goal
True, but not DIFFERENCE making players. Lots of guys struggle to find their niche as role players but rarely do you have guys that become stars that struggle in their first year as badly as Morris did. DD
I dont get it, you want a home run in the draft but you want that person to be NBA ready right out of college? Unless you get Anthony Davis this year, you aren't going to be able to project that for any prospect. Side note- Chandler Parsons was not as NBA ready as you might think. He was solid, but he improved dramatically over the summer and in France especially with his strength, leaping ability, and defense. I watched a ton of College hoops and if you would have told me 14 months ago that Chandler would be toe to toe with Lebron & Durant on defense I would have laughed my ass off. Chandler was not NBA ready when drafted. The Rockets hit a major home run with Chandler Parsons just as Boston did when Morey & their front office drafted Rondo years ago. Im assuming that your complaint is that the lottery picks Morris/Patterson were not home run type of players, and that they were proven commodities. I get that, but who would you have drafted there instead in all honesty? Everyone on this board that was thinking like Im assuming you are wanted Hasaan Whiteside instead of Patterson for instance. The truth is that there are no proven commodities in the draft in all reality. Even some of the greatest college players sometimes dont cut it at the next level. I understand fans wanting a player that on paper looks to have more upside, but in all reality, other than physical tools, what does upside really mean??? I know alot of tall guys that cant hoop for you know what. At the end of the day, its about seeing them on the court, and evaluating their talent. If they take Patterson over Whiteside, they probably have a good reason for doing it.
I am not complaining about it... I am demanding it....if someone would take noticce. the only way to go is to let go of our veterans as hard as it might be. Lowry might be a veteran, but he is still young enough. So I won't mind him sticking around longer. If you want to strike out, several draft picks might help. I would let go of Dalembert, give Camby a reduced role, let go of Budinger, Martin, Scola, possibly Patterson, and even Lowry. I am even hoping to replace Dragic some day with a better PG.
Dude, you cant just trade away 34.8 million in salary (Martin/Scola/Dally/Lowry) and get nothing but draft picks in return. Come on man. These hypothetical scenarios are ridiculous. You are also forgetting the most important part about getting young draft picks... developing them. What do you think develops a young player more... listening to McHale scream in your ear in practice every day, or going toe to toe with Luis Scola in practice every day, learning how to be a professional, and then hearing McHale scream in your ear from time to time? The Rockets do not need the capspace, so having one or two veterans on the team to help develop young players, and challenge them for minutes can only be a benefit unless you are a pro-tanker and want this team to turn into the Bobcats to luck out and get the #1 pick.
I am not saying we do it at once..... we obviously could. Of course we would be getting players back.... but all I care now are young players. Scola as a mentor yes... maybe he will be back once he retires All I was mentioning is that is the a very clear cut direction at least, not this way that requires us to be playoff first round meat stock for contenders within the next years
