Religion in general is all fraud. But hey, let them do whatever the hell they want. If they don't realize that its a sign of oppression and instead believe its a sign of "liberation" then fine. Let them do it.

    Don't be a douchebag.

Are you serious? I haven't been to Europe in over ten years (way overdue do to family complications), but I didn't recall seeing many women wear them in Europe at that time. In fact, it was unusual. Has that changed, and if so, why? I'm traveled to Europe and the Middle East at different times since the mid-'60's, my first trip to the ME being in 1965, before the '67 War. Jordan owned the West Bank, Beirut was a wealthy and bustling modern city. The Jordanians and Palestinians couldn't have been nicer. Saw lots of burkas being worn there (and saw many women not wearing them, as well), but in several months in Europe the same year, I rarely saw a Muslim woman wear one. Perhaps a scarf like a Catholic woman wore to Mass back then, but little of what is being discussed here. Have things really changed that much? And if so, why?

In the Middle East, you don't necessarily want to wear it, even if you do wear it. This is the key distinction.

Let me put it this way: if you consider that French women have a far superior education, more freedom (from country and family), have seen an experienced wearing a burqa.... then it's pure superstition. It's especially baffling because burqa is not Islamic, it is banned around the Kaaba since the birth of Islam. It is Arab culture, and a minority believe that is is an Islamic requirement. In fact, the only thing saving this practice is the fact that Arabs largely control perception of Islam, and Arabs initially branded every Arab export as "Islamic". A great example of this is how for centuries many people in the Indian subcontinent believed that they were required to wear those little white hats. They're not, that's purely Arabic. If the Prophet was Russian, we would all be wearing winter coats.

On the other hand, you havesome women in the GCC who:

    - Forced by dad + mom + bro + sis.
    - Forced by society.
    - Forced by authorities.
    - Forced by a religious scholar.

So they wear it. But when you see them, you assume she must want to wear it. Such as when you went to Jordan, you thought those people wear it, so you include them as part of the pro-Burqa group. But that's not the case.

In France, you don't want to wear it, maybe your husband stops you, but mostly if you're wearing it you want to wear it.

Elsewhere, if you don't want to wear it, you better be locked up in a room - which defeats the purpose.

There are ther differences, such as the difference between a Niqab and a Burqa and a "slutty" burqa. These "slutty" burqas are made to show everything but the forehead, accentuate the eyes and the lips. Do people who wear those burqas count, even though they're catering to a kind of regional dress rather than Islam?

At the end of the day, we'll never know, and we won't be able to determine for the near future. But that comment was directed specifically towards the will to wear it, which IMO is pretty nonexistant in cases where not wearing it is a real option that doesn't destroy your life.

To be fair, his last post was so contradictory and weird in itself that it is unclear if at that point in time he was acting as an apologist. It was like he typed up random thoughts.

But their economies are better because the women only show that beauty which is apparent.
