No offense, but that might be the worst idea I've ever heard. I can't imagine playing an xbox 360 without the joystick controller.

There are a lot of issues with having your phone as a controller... at least as a button controller. Even games on the phone have issues with it and you're staring at the game. Imagine now if you have the phone down and you're staring at the TV instead and have no tactile feel of what you're trying to control.

I put an SNES emulator on my phone and it worked fine, but the controls sucked. There's no precision there. Half the time I hit the outer half of a button or direction and paid the price. I would only play RPGs on it (where timing doesn't matter), and even then it was aggravating enough to stop using the emulator altogether.

Just imagine trying to touch type on a touch screen keyboard. Similar thing.

I hate playing REAL games on my phone (not talking about solitaire).

NBA or Fifa on the phone is terrible..

    I would take a PS3 controller anyday...

No thank you. Can you imagine what your phone would go through after playing mario party where some challenges involve button smashing?

If Vita ever gets Android, it'll sell like hotcake.

We'll see how well the Wii U takes off and if developers innovate gameplay to accommodate the new Wii U pad. I have a feeling the Wii U is going to sell pretty dismally, which would make developer innovation unlikely. Third party support is always pathetic for Nintendo boxes anyways, and it's going to take more than one Zelda and Mario game to make this idea catch on.

However, I'm also curious if the rumors of Vita-PS4 gameplay pan out. If two of the big three machines have hardware that supports a pad as a controller, then we'll start to see developers jump on board. You'd also get indi support for the PSN, which could see really cool concepts developed small scale that could be incorporated into big budget games.

If some of the above falls into place, we might even see the rumored Valve-Apple combo put a hardware kit out. If people could buy an inexpensive console and use their existing iPad to play high def games, that would sell like hot cakes.

I don't see how you even seriously think something like that is feasible. Even with a phone with a keyboard...

That or you only play very basic games on consoles.

Games played on phones are only meant for when you're on the ****ter or waiting somewhere for someone/thing.

Xbox does. Look at the xbox companion for Windows Phone/Windows 8 tablets...

It is not the developers that have to jump on board, it is the money, errr publishers that need to jump and they ALWAYS wait to see if the public likes the stuff.

Just look at the Sony Move failure for evidence.

I think the Wii U is interesting, but after so many people bought the Wii and it gathered dust, I believe they will struggle to sell this many this time.

    Fool me once mentality, IMO.

I've never played console games with it, but Windows Phone has the Xbox Companion app that allows you to turn on and navigate the Xbox 360...

There are some IOS games that, coupled with apple TV you can use your phone or iPad as the controller and stream the game to the TV via air play. The best I've played are a racing game and a flying game. On the racing game it shows the course map on the iPad which you use as the steering wheel.

Certain game types could work, but for the majority, nobody wants this as their controls:

You're forgetting a major problem: touch controls work on your phone/tablet because you're looking at the controller and the screen at the same time. On a console, you aren't –*you need tactile feedback to both accurately control your game without looking at it.

Think about how many people have trouble texting on their iPhones without looking at the screen –*muscle memory only goes so far. And the greatest failure of motion controls would either be their lack of feedback (you know when you've tilted an analog stick to the edge or how hard you pressed that button but not) or the cost it would take to make them accurate and responsive enough to control all but the simplest games (check out the multiple cameras in the Natal).
