If you have not read Storm of Swords you probably do not want to click on the spoiler but it might might shed some light on who thought of the wildfire first. In short I think it was Cersie's idea to start with. Spoiler After I read CoK I thought it was Tyrions idea as well but in SoS when Tyrion is complaining to Tywin about what reward he wanted for his part in the battle of Blackwater Bay, Tywin comments that the big chain was a good idea but that the wildfire was Cersie's idea.
They actually do say it's Cersei's idea to order the wildfire in Clash of Kings, though Tyrion is the one who gave instructions on exactly how to use it. Here is the relevant discussion from the book: Spoiler "There is no food coming in, is there?" Tyrion said to Vylarr. "Little enough," the captain admitted. "With the war in the riverlands and Lord Renly raising rebels in Highgarden, the roads are closed to south and west." "And what has my good sister done about this?" "She is taking steps to restore the king's peace," Vylarr assured him. "Lord Slynt has tripled the size of the City Watch, and the queen has put a thousand craftsmen to work on our defenses. The stonemasons are strengthening he walls, the carpenters are building scorpions and catapults by the hundred, fletchers are making arrows, the smiths are forging blades, and the Alchemist's Guild has pledged ten thousand jars of wildfire" Tyrion shifted uncomfortably in his saddle. He was pleased that Cersei had not been idle, but wildfire was treacherous stuff, and ten thousand jars were enough to turn all of King's Landing into cinders.
the danearys arc Spoiler i found it to be really boring in the book, her visit to the house of the undying was really confusing, although i am sure it was full of foreshadowing, but it is also really boring in the show
Spoiler its where she learned she would be deceived 3 times. One of them was by the witch that turned Drogo into a vegitable and had already happened. Once is from Jorah when she finds out he was sent to spy on her be Varys for Robert and a promise to have his exile lifted and I forget the 3rd. I thought Danerys really got interesting in SoS.
These spoilers won't really reveal anything to the people that haven't read the books. Spoiler ...but isn't there a thread for spoilers and discussion about the books? Spoiler Just sayin.
there was a non spoiler thread for season 1 which i never read, i hadnt read the books and invested too much in the ongoing thread there is also a thread for people who have read all five books, please direct me where i should go to converse about the show and the books without interrupting other people's enjoyment
Just started Feast of Crows a couple of days ago. On like page 150 or something. Love the books and I'm not really a book reader. Ok screw it, I'll be honest. Full disclosure. I'm not a big book geek. I have NEVER read a novel not required by school whether it was highschool or college or something work related. Now I'm into my 4th book of this series and the 5th is standing by on my bookshelf. They are a little intimidating when you first start, but I've found that I can't put them down. I would strongly recommend them to any fan of the TV series. The books are awesome. The TV show is only good in comparison. The character development you experience in the books is unparralled to anything you see on the show. Plus reading the books allows you a different perspective while watching the show that I find enjoyable. I only started reading after the first season and decided to go back and re-watch the first season because I felt like there was so many little subtle things that I either missed or didn't understand.
I honestly didn't have a problem with the changes. I thought it was a bit exciting not knowing exactly what was going to happen next and now I have some additional things to look forward to in regards to wondering how the story will unfold. There have been some changes the past few weeks that I wasn't a big fan of, but the things today were well done in my opinion. Keep in mind, some of the changes are surely done because of time constraints. You have to figure out how to most effectively tell the story in a shorter amount of time. Spoiler For example, I thought the dragons getting stolen adds a little more excitement to Dany's story arc because in the book it was drawn out and a little boring and repetitive until she went to the House of the Undying or whatever it is called. I'm thinking they took her dragons and I'm liking the idea of her going there to get them back and burning the place down in the process lol. Well that is what I'm hoping will happen. The change with Jon Snow is a bit puzzling, but interesting nonetheless
**** I love this show. I just wish there was a thread I could discuss the show without you bozos arguing about differences from the book.
Good episode. Not quite on par with the previous one, but the previous one was my favorite of the series so far. They set up some good stuff for next week. I kept waiting for at least one "You know nothing, John Snow." I guess that comes next week as well. Some good stuff from the Hound in this episode. Maybe they will finally start fleshing his character out a bit. Good to be reminded of his badassitude as well. We keep seeing his brother's intimidation but we forget Sandor can lay a beatdown pretty good too. I really can't stand the actress they got for Shae. But that's a minor complaint up to this point. My initial reaction to Theon's tomfoolery in this episode was that the actor was struggling a bit to command the scene, then I realized this was really more an aspect of the character and, he just never really learned how to lead men, despite his years amidst the Starks with their uncanny ability to inspire loyalty. Osha was hiding some delight underneath all those clothes. Enjoyed that. Book spoiler stuffs: Spoiler So I was a bit surprised they left out the girl getting brutally raped during the riot scene. She has more of a role later in the books (although I admit I can't remember exactly how extensive of a role). It just seemed like HBO rarely misses an opportunity for nudity or cruelty and that had the potential for both simultaneously.
The wife and I both got good laughs off those moments. I enjoyed the episode, seems like things are really starting to move forward.
