I don't fall in love with players. Martin has not win any awards or been awarded all NBA teams...that I can think of ... He scores.... but rarely takes over in the fourth... and just made the playoffs once with the Kings when he was young.
To be objective, I would probably take him if I was a fan, but from a league perspective there are tons of more suitable players to compliment a team of Rose, Aldridge, Hibbert

Understandable. There were very slim pickings with the shooting guard crop for me, so I went BPA. That late in the draft, I would consider him a steal.

Also, Martin wouldn't have to close with Aldridge and Rose in the game. Honestly, I would probably close out the game with Henderson at the 2 for his defense.

It sounds like you haven't watched Kevin Martin play. He was considered a top 5 shooting guard b/c of his efficiency. Once the rules changed, his efficiency took a nose dive.

His defense is horrible. Do you realize how often he loses sight of his guy, and his guy cuts to the rim for an open layup? He just doesn't have good court awareness when it comes to defense.

Ray Allen and Jason Richardson wouldn't need to handle the ball to get open shots if Martin were guarding them. They'd simply move without the ball along the baseline and around screens and get wide open shots.

Hollinger is not affiliated with the NBA...

    Oh, you again.......

Also most certainly had to do with injuries. Martin had a stretch of very good games before injuring his shoulder. He did this as a first option, not a third. I would expect his efficiency to go up in the role.

With Scola and Dalembert manning the paint. Aldridge and Hibbert would provide much more protection to say the least. Which of Ray Allen or Jason Richardson spend their time cutting to the basket frequently?

I just can't buy this. Martin has the ability to stick with his man on the perimeter. His frame is his biggest weakness and neither of his guards pose that kind of threat.

It doesn't matter, and quite frankly isn't the point I'm trying to make. If Grant Hill was selected to an All Defensive Team whether it is Hollinger or someone else, would you assume he is at least adequate defensively?

Actually RickSmith has a very sound and balanced starting team except for Nene and Favors.

We assume Nene is healthy and gives his usual 12 pts and 7 boards production
    which is alright

I would select Noah, KG, even Duncan at the C.

Nope, his decline had more to do with rule changes. You think its a coincidence we tried to trade him after the rule changes were announced?

In any case, even if his offensive efficiency does increase, it won't offset the increase in Ray Allen's offensive efficiency due to being guarded by Martin.

Actually, Richardson cuts to the basket a lot. But they both run routes to get open 3 pointers. And with Martin guarding them, they'll be guaranteed to get a lot of open looks.

Doesn't matter if you believe it or not. That's the reality. Martin is a horrible defender. The problem isn't his frame. It's his lack of awareness.

I never said Hill wasn't a good defender. I only questioned your claim that he was on this year's all-defensive team since they haven't been announced.

Rose is overall better but Westbrick is a high scorer...... when he is on.

Pierce and Allen at this stage could be pesky defenders...... and they can sure score in reasonable volumes....

Lol... you almost had me with that... not official ALL NBA defensive team....
    Hollinger's personal .....

No way Ibaka is on the 3rd team when he is the runners up to Chandler in the DPOY running.

Martin had some great games this year in his game log. He showed considerable promise before injuring himself. One thing I noticed about Martin this year was his unwillingness to drive to the basket, something we have seen from him in the past. This would certainly account for a reason he was getting to the line less. Whether that is because of health issues or apathy toward the team, the players in this competition are assumed fully healthy and have their heads on straight. Martin will mostly be guarding Richardson/Westbrook in this contest. Richardson himself had a sub par percentage from the field. Both Richardson and Martin can hit threes. The difference is, without a great post game, Rick Smith will have to rely on setting picks to get his man open, while I can rely on my post scoring to feed Martin the ball. I feel like my team is more balance from guards to bigs.

Remember, Henderson will guard Allen/Richardson a lot of the time. Martin can guard Westbrook by giving him space. He isn't a great 3 point shooter. If he drives past him, I have good shot blocking in the paint.

I'm still not clear as to how Richardson would stop Harrington who shoots a high percentage from the field. If I played Harrington at the 4, it would really bother his bigs.

I think its a little of both, but if he is scoring, there is no denying he has value. I have a pretty solid defensive team from 3-5 which is arguably more important, so I think I would fair ok. I don't believe this is my best matchup however...

I am aware you didn't say this. In fact, this wasn't even directed at you. Someone claimed Hill was not good defensively, and I raised the question. If he was given a defensive award this year by anyone knowledgable, you could reasonably assume he was at least adequate defensively.

haha. My point was that if he were on anyone's All defensive team who is knowledgable about the game, it certainly says something about the defense he played this year. Grant Hill is in no way bad defensively.

    Thanks for your vote;)
