That's another thing with the Blazers . . . NBA Draft is on June 28th. NBA Free Agency period does not begin for another two weeks after that on July 11th. So . . .Portland should be able to get some really nice pieces, if they decide to trade those picks, but I'd soon enough stick with the picks and try to get a younger piece in the draft. Afterwards, you can chase after veterans in free agency. For the most part, they can hold onto those picks unless there's a feeling the organization can net perennial all-star or fine upcoming player with them. If they have shot Beal, Gilchrist, Lamb, or even Drummond, then they might as well keep the pick and could always trade that rookie, later on in the night. The 11th pick is the wild card, more so. Closer to draft night, if they pick can net you a quality player, you trade that pick, not the 8th or higher pick. The Trailblazers have alot of realistic wild cards that they can play in this game and net a possible superstar, unlike Houston. I laugh when I see projections of how we could get Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, or anyone else. The Trailblazers have two picks as well, both are higher, and money to burn in free agency for Deron Williams.
I'm not saying that they will trade for him I was just giving you reasons why it makes sense for them to. They won't find a cheaper quality pg out there. Also, you do go for a fallback option if you think your chances of getting Williams are low and you can save a ton of money in the process. If the Blazers get the 6th or 7th pick you think they will for sure turn down Lowry, 14th and 16th pick for it?
Honestly, I doubt Lowry is going to make them much better, it almost does not make sense to trade 4th - 8th pick for him (even with the 14th pick), especially when there are some really nice players in that range. There's no incentive to trade that pick, outside of Lowry's salary, which is a good draw, but you are risking giving up on a really nice player, like Lamb, Beal, Gilchrist, or Drummond. Also, that rookie may be a better overall player than Lowry with an even lesser contract. The later pick would be of more interest to them, after they added fairly nice rookie with potential.
I hope Morey is reading this thread so he can see the interesting arguments. There is an old saying, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Loosing Lowry before we can secure Dragic would be risky. Timing is a factor since the draft comes two weeks before free agency.
I would love for the Rockets to have either Lowry or Dragic starting next season assuming we can't get Deron Williams. I think Morey loves both Lowry and Dragic so I think he will hesitate trading Lowry until he has landed Dragic. I think we need to focus on getting a star caliber player or alteast improving the SG and perhaps the PF/SF position.

The lottery is only for the top 3 picks. A team that finished with the 6th worst record can't get picks 4 or 5. That means the best the Blazers can hope for with the Nets pick is 6 since winning the lottery and getting a top 3 pick will result in them losing the pick to the Nets.
IMO, the Rockets should only focus on getting that #11 pick from Portland without using any of our picks to get it. Trade Lowry and Dallas' future pick for 11. I would just like to decrease the chances of having to use a pick for any draft day trades.

Do you not see those dashes? They have a percentage for picks 1, 2, and 3 and then dashes for picks 4 and 5. Those dashes are there because they CANNOT get picks 4 or 5. It's the same reason those dashes are there for picks 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 because they can't get those picks either. I repeat the Blazers CANNOT get picks 4 or 5 from the Nets. You don't understand how the lottery works.
