The Knicks defense did improve dramatically over last year (Shumpert had something to do with that too). More than not wanting to give the award to LeBron, I think voters were just tired of giving it to Howard every year.

I don't have a problem with centers getting the award most the time, they make a huge difference.. But not every year... And you may not be saying LeBron deserves the award, but I am... Not a big face of King Arrogance but he is defensively on another level than everyone else.. The guy is actually quicker than Derrick Rose, he has shut him down every time in the clutch and has become the best defensive wing I have seen in 25 years.. Than includes Pippen, McKey, Artest, Cooper..
Sorry no. LeBron individual defense is nowhere near Pippen's. I'd also argue that MJ's defense overall is also better.

People just overreact to the media attention LeBron gets defensively. A few plays of boxing Pau Gasol out and now you're suddenly better than some of the best defenders to ever play. It's stupid.
You can try to argue it, but you would be wrong... and I think Pippen and MJ were the best perimeter defenders for years. LeBron can literally guard 1-5 and the last few years has provided consistent effort on the defensive end.. Right now the gap between LBJ and the second best man defender is as wide as the gap between 1 & 2 I have seen possibly ever.
