I operate on this theory. Plus, the you-should-have-paid-me-when-you-had-the-chance theory. If they didn't want to pay you what you were worth before you had leverage, then they'll find a way to take advantage in the future too. The last job I left because I didn't think they paid me what I was worth. I had told them what I wanted, and they told me to go to the market and find it -- maybe they were Morey fans. So, I went and found it. And because I was a UFA, I told them not to bother with a counter-offer because I wouldn't consider it.
man I am getting scared... I asked them to match the offer for me to stay... Please don't replace me..
Just ask for a raise and not mention the other offer. If you are don't want to leave and happy where you are at why rock the boat. I know quite afew people that took the money and regretted it.
body slam, too late now.. I already showed them my offer sheet and asked if they can match it. Haven't heard back. have to make decision by tomorrow.. so scared... so scared...
...depends on if they like you, think you're committed to them, and if you're in a small co. We matched (and beat) an offer for a guy we liked -- was hard to determine 'market' for this guy. He stayed going on 6yrs now -- is now one of the chiefs. (I've since left). With another guy when he asked for a match we knew he would continue to be out there shopping. We did match. Didn't actively fire him...but accepted he'd be gone soon. And he was. As clint would say.....so, you feelin' luckky, punk?
I'd actually love that approach if I was wanting a raise. Hell, I'd be doing at least 1 phone interview a day in cities all over the USA. That's the way to do it IMO. Prove you can get more, prove you've got market value. That's cool.
I've been with the company for about 3 years, 1 year contract and 2 year perm. I don't know if they like me or not, but I hope they don't hate me.. I am so scared I can **** my pants now..
We had a person who was supposed to start 2 days ago inform us that their comany matched at the last second. it was a ho move but what can you do.
I'd rather just do my work and live my life. I didn't need another project. And, it's going to depress your salary. That's why Morey does it. Wouldn't it be better for you if they guess at your market value? If they guess high, you're golden; if they guess low, you leave for a higher-paying job.
I was in the same boat back in January. I did not ask employer to match. I just gave my resignation. When employer asked why, I told him about his competitors offer, only I jacked it up 10%. He matched it on the spot. Only reason I lied about offer was because I already had job and nothing to lose.
you are a free agent man, and you acted as such...you did the right thing, so don't second guess yourself. the age of corporations providing a life long career for people has passed, adapt or die my friend.
No. If there is another company (there is another company, isn't there? Or did you make that part up?) that wants to pay you more, then you owe it to yourself and those who you are responsible for (if anyone) to maximize your salary. You shouldn't be content to work for below-market wages. I think the only thing is you have to actually be willing to take this other job to get the offered salary. From the way you're freaking out, it sounds like actually accepting this other offer isn't a possibility. That does put you in a bad spot if your employer doesn't match. If they don't match, you may want to tell them the other company rescinded their offer and can you come back for the old wages.
LOL. You talk as if it's so easy to even get a phone interview. Have you explored the job market lately?
Depends what your skillset is. It's not hard for many professions. I assumed JuanValdez was in a high demand profession because he has a lot of green stars -- duh. If you're having trouble getting interviews I'd take a look at your resume. I'm a marketer in the IT consulting industry right now which gives me a strong pulse on the staffing world in general. I know what those blood sucking recruiters want to see.
What do those blood sucking recruiters want to seE?? Anywyas, just put in my 2 weeks notice today fellas. Scary move but guess what, nothing stays the same, change is inevitable. So you can either sit around and wait for those changes, or you can go out and make the changes you want for yourself. Lets get it b!tches
