Has anyone here ever got a job offer from another company, then the current company you were working for decides to match the offer?? What is the best way to bring this matter to your current employment esp when you want them to match the offer so you can stay??
Tell em' you don't want to leave but money is a factor, blah blah, but you love the company you are at and would be willing to stay for less (seriously, if you like it take a few thousand less). Position it like you hate that you will have to leave but you know you need the money and don't want to miss the opportunity. Also ask what your future outlook for advancement at the current company is, where does your supervisor think you can get if you stay and how long will it take to get there. Pretend like you might consider staying without getting a raise, and that you just want to know your current company is as invested in you as you are them. That will help you gauge if you're even worth it to them. Remember, you only hold a certain value to your current employer, there's only so much you can hope to get.
Dont play that card unless you are serious about staying if they counteroffer. If they do and you still leave, you'll be burning some bridges.
Honesty. Someone from my former company was ready to sign on with the company I curretly work for. She handed her 2-week notice and then recieved a counter-offer from her company. She however was being hired for a different position (promotion). Honesty would be best, i.e. "I have enjoyed my time at this company and hate to do this, but an offer for a higher-level position at another company was offered to me. yadda yadda yadda."
Are you sure you're in a good enough position to bargain at this point? What if your employer is like "ok, well go. kthxbai" then you'd be forced to take that other job.
The key to negotiation is the ability to walk away. In this case, your ace in the hole is the other job. Is it a done deal? Would you take it? Go to your current employer and tell them that you have X offer at another company, but would like to stay for Y. Also tell them that you need a promotion as well, if at the very least in title only. The amount of X and Y are up to you. If they say no, you resign. There's a chance that they will realize that and accept your offer or at least counteroffer. Good luckkk.
I hope you realize that the moment you take their counter offer, they will be looking for your replacement.
That's how it was at my previous company. They'd make you a counter offer to keep you around for a month or two so they could find somebody new and train them.
Have you approached your current boss in the past? Asked for a raise? Asked for a promotion? Did you get declined? If so, then whatever they give you now is not worth it. I don't think I'd ever take a counteroffer because I know they didn't deem my worthwhile previously. And they only want to keep me around because it's easier now but eventually they'll replace me.
Considering the reputation of the OP and some of his past threads, I think you guys are putting way too much thought into your replies.
I hope you know if you take the counter offer, they'll be searching for your replacement. And never speak with the other party's insurance company directly. Sincerely, Micheal Keaton in My Life.
Is this dude ALWAYS playing mob bosses, or what? The Firm? Just like that congressman is always playing congressmen.
