You were in fact 100% wrong. They might have put another sandwich as the special because they were overstocked with that particular type of meat. That's not a joke, it's just to say that if they discount a certain item there's no reason to assume that a smaller or less varied item should automatically cost less, value isn't explicitly or universally derived that way.
This reminds me of a fast-food incident that happened with me and my mom years and years ago. I think I was in high school... and I believe the place was a Jack in the Box, but I'm honestly not sure any more. Anyway, it was late at night. Both my mom and I were tired and hungry. We drove up to the drive-through order menu thing. There was literally no one else there, behind us or in front of us. We placed our order and then drove up to pick up our food at the window. It was then that my mom remembered that she had a coupon. She showed it to them, and told them she wanted to use it. They refused, on the grounds that they had already rung it up, and she hadn't told them about the coupon when she was ordering. As you can imagine, my mom was having none of that. There were a few moments of pointless back-and-forth arguing, and then my mom said, "Fine," and proceeded to drive around the entire structure and place a new order. We, of course, ordered the exact same things, and then my mom very pointedly and sarcastically added that we also had a coupon we'd like to use. The guys at the window looked appropriately cowed when we drove back up. Now I'm remembering all of these nostalgic fun memories of my mom telling people to go screw themselves. Like when she brought a Starbucks coffee into a theatre one time, and an employee told her that the theatre didn't allow beverages from outside in the theatre. She just looked at the poor guy and told him that he could go ahead and try to take it from her and see what happens. He walked away rather quickly.
And I'm on my iPhone so.... Although it's easy to just nix the meat on a sandwich, the point is that you are expecting a favor from the staff to ring it up so that you don't need to pay an extra dollar.
i understand being upset about the coupon but the coffee incident just screams of entitlement and thinking the rules don't apply to her. she has spunk though, i'll give her that.
This is true, I've worked at many restaurants that had specials on certain days to knock out the freezer before the new shipment comes in. Pappasitos does half priced fajitas, because new meat comes in on Wednesday. Specials can be used to make a small profit before your supplies go to waste.
Let me pose another scenario. Suppose I order a ham sandwich, and it usually includes cheese. But I tell the guy making the sandwich I don't want the cheese, and he tells me that it will cost extra to not include it. He's free to charge what he likes, granted, but I think I'd be justified in expressing how totally nonsensical that pricing policy is to me.
Problem with this scenario is that you are not asking for the same price as the cheese-less on sale sandwich.... You are simply ordering a regular sandwich and adding the desired veggies/meats/cheese..... The price will not drop or raise for subtracting or adding.......
