In fact, the Rockets had 3 key injuries Yao, Mutombo, and T-Mac. Orlando wasn't quite a full-strength, either.

The Celtics also lost Kendrick Perkins, late in the finals in 2010

The Lakers and their asterisk championships. Have they beaten any really good teams in their last two championship runs and three runs to the Finals.

The Rockets had toughest 2 year title run in NBA history. I loved watching the Bulls, but they played alot of garbage in the East (same with the Celtics and Lakers), they really didn't get tested until the conference championships, often times.

my god his OP is absurd and arbitrary. I didn't even catch the DRose mention, just figured the reason for any * this year would be the strike. you could go a million different ways if you extrapolated all the injuries in the League going back 25 years or so.

his logic doesn't even make sense.

    By his logic...

    2009 (Yao Ming)?

Or any other year someone got hurt who led a team. This guy doesn't deserve a pay check.

We could actually say put an * next to the Bulls 96 championship because we had so many injuries that year. Drextler, Hakeem, and Sam missed a ton of games combined. We never had any real fluidity that year.

Actually, the real asterisk for our 1994 and 1995 championships is that the Sonics lost in the first round both years. That was the real gift.

The Sonics owned the Rockets in the mid-90s.

We don't talk about that isht, besides the Sonics don't exist anymore so it don't matter. :p

It's the other way around. The Bulls' championship should have an asterisk because the Sonics beat us with illegal defense.

    Relax guys.

When the premise of the bit that 2012 will be an asterisk championship because of Rose (ROSE?????) there's not much need to take the rest of the piece too seriously.

I'm doubting the parade was mapped out in Chicago this summer. The rest of the article was filler....and likely even less thought out as its main point.

I'm relaxed. I just think that when it comes to our championships, chumps like Simmons should be called out for their ignorant stupidity.

Too bad they didn't own the first round.

This argument always strikes me as silly - "if only they'd had to play this group of losers, they'd show them who the REAL winners were."

The Rockets owned the bulls in regular season in some of their championship years, whipping them soundly twice in 1993.

That Rockets team never got a chance to get to the Finals, because they lost in Game 7 OT (with some horrible hometown calls down the stretch in a rabid Seattle COliseum) against the Sonics...in a series in which homecourt was huge, insofar as the home team won every single game.

The reason why they didn't have home court in that series, of course, was the fact that in the last game of the season, despite the Rockets having had more points on the scoreboard as time expired in the Season finale @ the Alamodome, David Robinson rose up, about a full second after the light went on and the buzzer went off, and tipped the ball in.

There was no replay in those days, so they gave the Spurs the basket and overtime, which they went on to win - which gave Seattle HC advantage by virtue of the tiebreaker.

Now, why don't the Bulls get an asterisk here? They clearly didn't have to face their most dangerous opponent (...due in part o bona fide injustice, unlike the Sonics who simply weren't good enough to advance....)

another thing, at that time, in the early 90s, espn was legit. They covered all teams and not just the ones they deemed holy like they do today. If today's media was covering that 94-95 orlando team, they would be all over them, saying how they're the greatest team ever of alllll timmme and mj had no chance.

As it stands, Jordan should be sending some danish pastries to george karl for knocking us out of the playoffs.

The whole thing about '94 is the Bulls were not going to get past NY again. The league rules were designed to favor the Knicks stopping MJ. You have to address that before addressing whether the Bulls could even beat Hakeem that year.

Bill Simmons should know that the 94 Rockets beat the Suns AT HOME in Game 7.
