Whataburger at 16. I enjoyed being able to afford more than one pair of shoe a year and could buy little things for myself whenever I wanted.

It taught me that Whataburger ingredients are of pretty good quality, and that using their ingredients I could make the best chili cheese fries ever in life. All you need is a burger patty on the grill, seasoning, picante sauce, shredded cheese, sliced jalapenos on the grill and a fresh batch of fries.

    Lifeguard

I was the lead guard at a pool in a black neighborhood. Taught me that black people don't go to the pool. Easiest job ever.

Mr Gatti's pizza at 16yrs old.

It only reaffirmed what the militant midget already knew.....that "Boy" is a white racist word.

Washing school buses for Katy ISD. Learned that if your quota of busses to clean in six hours is two, I had five hours to sleep, listen to Stevens and Pruett, and generally dick around in the bus barn.

Or at least the false ambiance of higher class. Of course Japanese culture is considered to be very elegant so no doubt they have to display all those cultural stereotypes that we associate with them.

Kimonos, japanese scroll art, ancient Japanese architecture, samurai swords, etc.

Moving irigation pipe between my 7th and 8th grade year.

    It taught me so much.

Only you can finish the job you start.

The harder you work the sooner you are done.

Responsibility, if I was not up and at the farmers house by 5:55 he was leaving my butt and it was my job to get the line moved before 7:00. Same scenario at night, I only rode my bike out to pipe once.

Basic business math skills, you were paid so much for each pipe you moved. If you helped someone else out it was up to you to report how many pipe you moved. Hence your paycheck was determined on how well you kept track of your work.

Finally, that there is reward in hard work. Just because it’s manual labor does not negate the fact that there can be pride of work. I took pride in how my lines looked after I moved them. Straight lines mean a better crop in the long run.

I was a caddy at the country club. In college I had a couple of paid internships, then a paid research fellowship. Out of school I got a job teaching part time. Next year I'll be teaching full time.

Been a cushy and privileged life. Dunno if I should feel guilty or not.

Shouldn't ever feel guilty about your life, unless it involves your attitude towards yourself and others. Just my 2 cents.

interesting that you choose to attack me. Since you're trying to tell me how my life has played out (curiously without the benefit of facts), let me hit you with some knowledge.

Yes, I enjoy a high lifestyle today. I make lots of money, enjoy several "thousand dollar meals" each year, drive a luxury vehicle, travel the globe on vacation, etc.

but did you know that even bigtexxx has experienced living poor? It was long ago, but living in a 1,500 sq ft old home in the middle of Mexico with 5 others would qualify. We had broken glass bottles ringing the top of the wall around the house to keep burglars from climbing the wall and robbing us. We all piled in and took an old beat up Volkswagen bug to school. Hardly yucking it up at the country club.

Before I was old enough to have a job, I mowed lawns for several summers. Before that, I made some money by catching and selling mud minnows to Louis' Bait camp on Hwy 6 in Hitchcock on the weekends I got to go down there. When I turned 16, I was a sacker at Randalls.

I learned it's better to be your own boss.
