    Depends on who we draft/sign.

If we somehow get Hibbert in free agency or draft either Drummond or Leonard (only true Cs worth anything in the draft i think) we should probably let him go

But if not, keep for anther year and see what we can get outta him.

Contract year, right? It wouldn't make sense to just cut him.

Given the fact that only $1.5 mil is guaranteed next year, 2011-2012 was also a contract year and we see how that worked out.

Wouldn't it be nice to know what interest, if any, other teams may have and we just don't know, do we?

We need to start a bidding war between Miami and Orlando.

Camby is injury prone. All of a sudden we have the luxury to cut centers.

Let him go, we don't need him, he is not a difference maker.....and we need playing time for the young guys like DMo.

Yes. As I noted, the decision on Dalembert (whether to guarantee his contract or buy him out for $1.5 mil) doesn't need to be made until July 8, 2012-- i.e. the date on which teams can begin to sign free agents for the 2012-13 season. So, it would makes sense for the Rockets to explore trading his contract at any time before then.

Some teams may be interested in him as a decent reinforcement at a decent price tag-- $6.7 million for only one year, no long term commitment. Other teams may be interested in trading for him as part of a salary dump (they can technically have the Rockets absorb more than $10 million in guaranteed contracts for next year in exchange for Dalembert, then buy out Dalembert for only $1.5 million).

However, if the Rockets are to make take back any guaranteed 2012-13 money in a Dalembert trade next year, they'll have to weigh what they get back against what they can gain by waiving Dalembert (i.e. what they can realistically sign for $8.1 million or so in cap room, the possibility of opening up further cap room (up to almost $18 mil if they also let Dragic and Lee go) and the possibility of using that cap room to facilitate another trade). So, they are going to be pretty picky about what they get accept in a Dalembert trade.

With the buyout option coming up this summer, Dalembert will be a very nice trade chip come draft day. A trade for Dalembert with benefit the other team both for matching salaries on any deal, renting starting caliber center services for a year, or to allow that team to shed salary by exploring the buyout option.

-Morey only gave in to signing Dalembert for this very reason. He knew come this summer he would be a nice trade chip if only for the buyout option only. Also the fact that centers are in high demand for pretty much any team if they could trade for him on this contract. In free agency its no surprise that other teams looked elsewhere last summer.

I actually disagree with this, and heres my reasoning.

Playing guys like DMo, Patterson, etc. at the center position next to a poor defensive big like Scola does not help but stunts their growth because they are asked to do too much of the dirty work on the glass and guarding the other teams best big man.

I like the idea of having a couple solid vet centers play with guys like Patterson and DMo to allow them the freedoms offensively to develop their game. Any other position I agree that the young guys should be getting developed. Having a vet center in the middle talking to them on defense can actually help their development.

I thought Patterson's time he spent having to guard the opposing team's best & biggest post players actually hurt both his offensive production and value on the market for that matter.

And p/o flame outs will affect all things trade/picks etc. At this point we know nada, really.

I keep looking at the 'overachieving' Jazz. I expected them to dump out of Jeff at first op yet he's becoming a good-citizen facsimile of ZBo. They'll have GS' pick (one or more teams will drop the pick to Jazzville), Kanter, Favors. What will they do - - or what will they do if they give SAS a real scare? I think they are an opportunity franchise for DM the GM in a multitude of ways (tho offhand I can't think of any known relationship between front offices - - no deals or rumors; Jeff and KMc tho...hmmm).

What in Maloof the M'goof will happen there? OK, and where? 14 and 16 for eek Reke? Will Sac er Anaheim er Vegas er Mexico City pay Thompson?

There are so many scenaria to unfold...let's get a good result for TheGoodGuys!

I don't think the Rockets have to eat the $1.5mil buyout if they don't want him here. For a center, his salary and 1yr contract is very friendly, especially with so many teams under the cap. I think there's at least one team willing to give a protected 2nd round pick(aka nothing) for him.

    Keep both
we've been suffering from the lack of tall centers
so unless u get the next Dwight Howard u'd better keep ur 2 old 7 footers around

    Cut him.

If we have any cap room left after signing Lee, Camby, and Dragic, it would be better used to help out a team over the luxury tax to shed a contract, earning us a possible draft pick.

Dalembert can't be relied on and is not going to help us win a championship.

If his option is picked up, can he be traded still in the offseason?
