I don't know if this has been mentioned but my answer to the OP is simple: No. Kevin Martin was part of a deal that netted us Gasol. Even though there were a lot of people against that trade, we were coming out of there ahead and Martin was a piece another team wanted. He did not have his best season last year, but there are still teams interested in him. If we can not get anything for him, then we can still use his contract a year later.
http://www.startribune.com/sports/wolves/148810545.html?page=1&c=y Summer of moves? The Wolves could add Love's new $13 million salary and still clear more than $12 million for free agency if they let go Beasley, Randolph, Milicic, Webster and retiring Brad Miller. But they still would have to fill out those roster spots, and as many as six NBA teams could have $20 million or more to spend this summer when the Wolves' best options are difficult-to-sign restricted free agents -- O.J. Mayo, Eric Gordon, Nicolas Batum -- or perhaps overpaying unrestricted free agents Ray Allen or Landry Fields. More likely is a trade for a player such as Kevin Martin, who played for Adelman twice and whose $13 million salary Houston wants to shed.
KMart is getting traded. And with $12.5M coming to him in 12/13, here's who I've 'roughly' figured would be available from teams that need a SG next season: Who Needs SG? What they can offer Boston Future 1st rounder? May be late first Charlotte Future 1st rounder? Lottery Chicago Boozer Cleveland Trade exception (cap space) NY nothing Orlando Howard (lol) LA Clippers Caron Butler ($8M) Minnesota M. Beasley ($8M) Phoenix Gortat ($7.2M), Frye($6M) and cap space (TE) BOLD means what I think is more likely to happen.
Martin is still one of the most efficient offensive players in the league. His value is down because he didn't produce this year as before and some may think he is on the decline. But the point is if you need to throw in a filler to make salaries match he is a great option for some teams because he still has some talent and the biggest reason is he is expiring next year. Come trade deadline a team will only have to pay him 5 mil to contribute. No more obligations. That makes him a good value in a trade.
