    Seriously? A Dynex TV???

How is that even possible that you are a millionaire and purchase a cheapo TV? How do I have a better TV than a millionaire basketball player and I'm poor as hell??

For what it's worth, Dragic is represented by BDA Sports, the agency that also represented Yao Ming and represents Chuck Hayes (among many other players).

So, there would seem to be a good professional relationship between the team and the agency.

I guess it would depend on if the agent is upstanding, no? Doesn't he get paid a % of whatever Goran signs for, so if he signed a big deal somewhere else, and the agent lives in houston, the agent would still get the houston tax breaks on a larger contract that Goran signs for elsewhere? I mean I guess we just assume he has Goran's best interest in mind.

maybe not cheap but down to earth. you can tell that by the way he carries himself. Psssh 3d tv, dragic creates his own dimensions.

    HMMMHMM is right, Clutch.

Unless Dragic's agent lives in Texas/Florida, I'm not sure whether he will be able to get the state income tax benefits on his commission. Not sure how the IRS treats location of earned commissions, though.

If anything, his agent may be LESS inclined to convince Gogi to sign an "even-money" deal in Houston, since the Rockets will sell Dragic on the idea of a smaller deal really still being more money for him. That could mean a smaller overall commission (both before and after taxes) for him.

Good thing the Rockets have that fifth year and 7.5% annual raises to offer. ;)

Keep in mind that the Dynex could be a GIFT for a family member in Slovenia.

Dynex seems more like a brand you buy as a gift for someone else.

Mostly, i was thinking that people who live modestly, usually don't care for bright lights and storied franchises. Usually Houston has to pay up and still sell the city/franchise to the player, but goran's personality and way of life fits Houston well already.

I think we're all reading too much into that tv set. His contract was expiring or could be traded again and nearly was. It's probably cheaper to buy and discard than ship belongings everytime he has to move in-season.

Psychological warfare. His agent brought the Dynex TV over after getting it at Costco, then told the astonished Goran to take a picture of it and send it out over the "social media," thus making the opening salvo in the negotiations.

The math may work this way. However, isn't it the agent's professional responsibility to inform Dragic of how the math works so that Dragic can make a decision that works the best for Dragic, even if it lowers what is paid to the agent?

I understand that agents want to maximize their earning, but Dragic is with a legit major agency, so I would assume they look at it from a "big picture" perspective, and would not try to squeeze just a little more money out of one contract while risking their reputation. I mean, if I were a rival agency and got wind that some player's agent was not informing his client how he might be able to save on both tax and commission, I'd totally use it to try and poach the client.

I'm sure I wasn't the only one on here who , at first glance at the thread title + Carl here, thought it was going to be another Oden debacle ;)

    No s**t.

I hope Morey has learned his lesson on the cheap recruiting crap: no-state-tax, good-cost-of-living, Chinese-shoe-deal (he used Anta to b.s. Gortat into making up for the difference in offering $3,500,000).

You can USE these things, but not as a way to low-ball a player you MUST keep.
