Without Phil Jackson this Buss and the Lakers are irrelevant.

Yeah, I didn't really like giving up Hill in a deal that helped the Fakers get Sessions (I think it was the same deal at least) and that left us with essentially nothing.

I still think the odds are stacked against him being anything very special, but he still had potential and showed flashes. Might at least be a decent player worth more than we got.

Thanks for the heads up. Not a controversial comment really... but the quote on Jordan Hill starts at the 11:05 mark.

He is right, we should have extended him, he was playing out of position all year.

If Jordan Hill would just put down the bong, and maybe gave a s**t more than one game in five, he'd be a good 18 mpg energy dude off the bench at both the 4 and 5.

Patterson hasn't shown much more. More skills, maybe, but overall, not much more of a difference-maker. Given that he's still with us and Jordan Hill is not, let's hope this changes.

Some bigs indeed blossom in their 4th or 5th year (and some smalls, too, look at Lowry and Dragic, for example), but many more of them simply never pan out for any NBA team.

The question for the Rockets back in January was whether you pay him $3.6 million (the price tag on his team option), and eat into your cap room by that same amount, in order to find out how good he could be, or do you use that money either as part of what it takes to sign a more proven player or take chances on someone else that might blossom.

You're right, Jordan is still young. When he gets to Bynum's age, he'll probably be a lot better.

Oh, wait, I forgot. Jordan Hill is 3 months OLDER than Bynum.

Don't worry. If Hill ever amounts to anything which he probably won't but in the rare case he does....

Best case scenerio for me would've been patterson and hill playing the 4 with morris as the depth. Scola on the roster did 0 towards getting a good feel on what patterson and hill can be down the road.

Cuz he had 1 good game against a decent team makes him a potential star....?
Lakers management is a joke, we've been watching this guy for 3 years we know What he is capable of and what he isn't, his salary is not a nice salary and their pick means more to us.

Do you assign any value to Scola being an example to help young players grow and being a team leader?

For example, Scola has been the work-out/shooting drill partner for Parsons all year and Parsons has improved his shooting and overall game during the course of the season. Doesn't mean that Parsons would have been a lazy ass without Scola, but the coaching staff seems to appreciate the value of such sesssion.

As for Hill and Patterson: I think we've seen enough from each of them to know that (1) Patterson is still a decent jump shooter and defender and still bothered by his bone spurs surgery (2) Hill is good every 2 to 4 games. If either one of the is more than what they are, they would have beaten out Scola for his minutes. McHale hasn't been shy about benching veteran starters if there is a better option.

No, that would be the 16 year veteran shooting guard that is owed nearly 60 million dollars over the next two years.

Really? I think its a good trade for both sides. Hill is a GOOD player, if we had someone like Bynum already in the center slot then he'd be the perfect complement, the guy is a bit of a space cadet but he's always active, always hustling and is a pretty good rebounder.

In a vacuum, Hill is worth more than a low first rounder, esp. when he's still extremely raw. I personally like him more than PPat after his joke of a season, at least Hill worked really hard in camp and hustled day in day out even if he was out of position until he got injured. Unfortunately, we don't live in a vacuum, we still have Scola, Ppat, 2 picks in the draft and DMO coming over next year. There's just no space for him, and flipping him for a 1st rounder is a good deal IMHO.

So this trade is a rare case of win-win for both teams, which is why Buss is happy he got a good player for a low price and we're happy we got a first rounder and trimmed the roster.

    he was an okay rebounder
    terrible passer
    no real go-to moves
    not strong
    not smart
    average scoring ability...

dont care. if we hadnt lost Lowry and Martin we wouldve finished the season better. dont care about the 4-0 road-trip, I think overall we wouldve been more cohesive and productive.

screw Jim Buss, its easy to "like" a player... but liking a player doesnt prove their usefulness.
