All depends now on who we get (or trade for) using the 16th.

When is the Lottery? I don't think it's been set yet. It will be next month.

We have the players and future picks to move up with. No need to use these picks to move up in this draft, imo.

it's tough not to give up this year picks. this year the pool is very deep. you may find good players in late of the 1st round so some teams may be willing to give up their higher pick for lower picks to get their needs and more picks.

Not to mention several millions of dollars in salary and luxury tax savings.

No matter how those pick obligations turned out, it was a very good trade at the time. Sucks that the pick/swap didn't turn out better, but there was a fairly decent chance at the time that they'd help us out a lot more than they did. Hindsight is 20/20.

Uh...what are you talking about? Main piece we lost on the deal is Tmac and Landry. Tmac's washed out and Landry ended up making 9M a year (in other words, we would have let him go). The 16th pick alone in the 2012 draft is a big win for us.

It was an ok deal. The 16th pick nothing special imo. Morey did not "rape" or get over on NY as some previously thought. You still think so, fine. We'll agree to disagree.

Morey tricked the Knicks into Amare's contract. :p

I think we made out pretty good for a guy that was pretty much done. Could have worked out better in terms of the picks we ended up getting, but I doubt we could have gotten a better deal at the time.

as bimathug said its 20/20 in hindsight

i mean if the knicks had landed the #3 pick last year and then had the #6 this year then it would have been an absolute "rape"

Its hard to assess the deals after the thought - who knows what if the #16 ends up being the best player in this draft then 5 years from now it will seem like a rape again.

the deal that was done was extremely favorable for the rockets - regardless of what happened with the pick obligations if presented with the situation again I think any GM would make that trade again and again.

You gotta roll it. I have no problems with the deal.

BTW - - if this draft IS 16 deep with real rotation players then the tradability of 14 and/or 16 should be terrific. Hey, maybe MJ will take the two picks for his #4 (after three teams move up and he gets posterized!

Actually, it was sarcasm, but it's OK if you liked the idea. ;-)-.

14, 16, and lowry? That has to get you a top 5 pick, right? Top 3?
