But that's what Jacoby was. Raw, potential, some thought he could eventually be a great WR if he harnessed all his talents blah blah blah

Do we really want to move up to draft someone like that (i.e. very well may not pan out the way you hope above) given our team's immediate needs and ability to be Super Bowl competitive?

I'm more than happy with taking the best player available. I don't want them to feel like they have to reach for a WR in the 2nd when a quality guy can be had in the 3rd or even 4th.

Ladarius Green is an interesting TE possibility that might be able to be selected in the 4th as well.

I think Hill has a much better reputation as a blocker for what it's worth.

I'm aware that's what Jacoby was, and he failed, which is why we're having this discussion at all.

Just because he bombed doesn't mean the guy we take this year will, too.

I never suggested moving up. We have no immediate need for a WR.

Nor do I think any rookie WR we take will impact our team in any significant way this year.

Would love to see Fleener or Jeffery in the 2nd. Then draft Zebrie Sanders in the 3rd if at all possible. He had first round talent the year before but his stock has drafted after last year.

At the same time, blocking was simply emphasized at GA Tech. For all we know Ryan Tannehill could be a better blocker at WR.

I'm desperate to see a lineman in the second (or third). Still out there:

    Glenn
    Konz
    Martin
    Adams
    Silatolu
    Osemele
    Massie
    Schwartz

I suspect we'll see most of these guys get snapped up in the first half of the round, though. Could be more likely that one of the WR targets falls into our range.

I'd be very concerned about our prospects without the addition of a contribute-now WR. This car is rolling with one bald(ing) tire and 3 spares. Schaub wasn't going to make all the late season passing problems go away on his own.

Fleener's expected to be one of the very first picks tonight.

I'm sorry, but I can't help but lol at Donny continually pimping the "we have no need at WR" line. Downright hilarious.

Thinking that we need to spend a top flight pick to replace our 4th offensive option... or thinking that a rookie WR could come in and start and/or make an impact... that's what's really lolable.

Kevin Walter is average, Jacoby Jones sucks, Johnson and Daniels can't stay on the field. Texans will take a WR/TE for insurance.

Unless you guys want to rely on more Bryant Johnsons next season.

Then hope we land somebody in FA, cause an immediate significant contributor isn't walking through that (draft) door.

actually the more i think about it the more I lean towards just waiting to make a run on a pair of WRs in the 4th.

If the texans can get a quality DE and Swing G or Tackle in the 2nd and 3rd, I'd be pretty happy with that.

So... with all the Fleener talk prior to the draft.

Is he worth trading up for to 33 and preventing the Colts from taking him?

Any other train of thought is just careless and short-sighted at best.

The passing game may not be broke, but it is in desperate need of youth, speed, and talent.

I'm pumped about Day 2. There seems to be around 5 deep at OT/OG, WR, and DT that are worthy of 2nd round selections. I'm hoping we get aggressive and move up to get a Randle/Hill/Jeffrey or Martin/Amini/Adams (maybe, if they haven't taken him off their board after the failed drug test)

PFT is also reporting that the Cowboys are shopping CB Mike Jenkins who has 1 year left at a base salary of 1 million. The report thinks it won't take much due to the fact they have Carr and Claiborne (similar to the Asante situation) and he is coming off a year in which he had trouble staying on the field. There is a tie to Wade Phillips there and Jenkins would do pretty well filling in the role that was vacated by Jason Allen.

Kubiak got his RB (Ben Tate) in 2nd round of the draft a few years ago, in the midst of EVERYONE clamoring that RB was the teams biggest need. And it was indeed a huge need at the time.

I think this 2nd round pick will be handled in simular fasion - putaining to a WR/TE. With more picks to follow later.

I'm pretty confident that Joe Adams will be a Texan when it's all said and done as well.

I think we're going to take a WR in the next two picks (which is the right thing to do), but I think people are sorely mistaken if they're expecting the guy to make a significant contribution right away.
