Got an HP Touchpad for Christmas.

Used it for a few days afterwards just because it was new and stuff, but since then, ive read one book on it, played 5 minutes of some game, used it once or twice for skype, and used it one day for the internet when my computer wasn't working.

That's about it. I can't really find much of a use for it. Though I haven't really been looking.

it doesnt help that the app store is a lot more limited than android or itunes marketplace

At a dance club where Mrs. SwoLy and I were, I used a drawing app to tell the Bartender "two Dos Equis, please" with a drawing of a double-X-rated thing held up in the air. He helped me before anyone else.
Let's GO, sucka. Let's DANCE, old man.

Does anyone use Microsoft Office on their iPad? I don't have an iPad but might get one if Office works well on it.

Also, is Office going to have an actual official app on the iPad anytime soon? And when they do, will it have Access too? Right now you can use Microsoft Office Web App but I think that's the only thing they've put out there.

Is MS Office and Access mandatory? The iWork Apps (Pages, Numbers and Keynote) are available. Is Bento and alternative to Access for you?

I think they are mandatory. My job involves document control for a large organization and I will basically eat, sleep and breathe Excel, Access, Sharepoint, Word, Tableau and some other crap like that. I don't think I can use an alternative such as Bento.

I just feel uncomfortable taking my work laptop with me everywhere I go. I don't have to be available 24/7, but it is not rare that I will be contacted a few times a day after work hours or on weekends.

I'll be using Microsoft 7 for at least a couple of years. Plus, if every other Windows is crap, isn't 8 supposed to be crap?

    Or...

Would it be better to get the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime? I personally think five words is too long of a product name, but if it works better with Microsoft Office it might be worth it.

The other thing you can look into is using VNC or RDP on the iPad to access your work computer. If you have to do heavy duty stuff, then that probably isn't a viable option, but if you simply have to have a means to access those apps on your work computer to read or do simple data entry, then it could work for you.

How are y'all using the iPad as a remote and is there a comparable app for iPhone?

The various remote apps I've tried aren't useful, i.e. the "Remote" app for controlling iTunes via WiFi and the app for blu-ray players that doesn't work with my PS3.

If you have Time Warner Cable, they have an app that lets you watch some programming on the device, see the Guide, program your DVR, etc. You can use it to switch the channels on your various TVs as you browse the guide. Others might have this as well, I don't know.

With an appleTV or airportexpress, you can control them with the actual "Remote" app. watching programming or listening to music or whatever. Setting the music up on itunesDJ and giving people access to choose songs through that interface, or through that app on their own phones, is a good setup. Don't know about PS3, but controlling music through the remote app is good.
