I wouldn't mind the Texans using a pick on a kicker if there is a kicker that is head and shoulders above the rest. So many games come down to a last second field goal.
He hit 50+ yarders in each of the past three years, and that's in college environments that aren't anywhere near as cozy as Reliant Stadium, Lucas Oil Stadium and whatever it is in Jacksonville.
Now the question is what round do the Texans use to get the top kicker when everyone around the leauge knows they need one and might draft and stash themselfs. 3rd would be too early. I say use the early 4th they got from the Eagles. A little early but better safe then sorry.
IF you can have first dibs on the best kicker in the draft I would take it. Going with a mediore kicker, you are gonna get what you get. This guy might turn out to be a pro bowl kicker forall we know.
I think the Texans will use the fantasy football philosophy and take a kicker out of the trash bin. No way they draft one in rounds 1-4, even the 5th round is stretch to me.
Assuming they don't do something stupid, and draft a K before, at the very least, the 5th round - no 5th+ round draftee is guaranteed a roster spot; they have to earn it. So if they do draft a K late, it doesn't (or shouldn't) perclude them from bringing in a veteran to compete for the job.
Most good kickers have bounced around. Rick Smith even spoke about that. Kicker is obviously not a Texans priority. 6th round at the earliest. It's not like Bullock is that good anyways.
