They never realistically thought this group was ever going to win a championship. They wanted to create value within their roster to make the big trade easier with more tradeable players. Thats the reason why its better to make the playoffs with a young group of players then it is to fiddle around the middle of the pack and NOT make the playoffs.

In fact, if you are mediocre, nobody want your pieces. See Morey's assets rotten in Rockets red.

If you suck, you have picks that everyone wants. See how Celtics got Garnett and Allen.

or you could rebuild through the draft, like OKC and Chicago did.

That is not correct. Having the #1 pick does not guarantee you a championship and I don't think any tanker has said that - in fact I think most anti-tankers like putting words in the mouths of those who disagree with the path the Rockets have taken. Maybe you hit on a bad year or that your prospect crapped out from injury or you got a bad scouting report - it happens. Rebuilding is rarely fast and painless. The Bucks got a lucky pick and it didn't pan out. The Rockets got a lucky pick and it didn't pan out. That doesn't mean you never try and rebuild through the draft again.

You realize that Morey traded those "rotting assets" that nobody wants last summer, right?

If you suck, you have players that nobody wants. Unless your star player is unhappy and feigning injury or something.

Which is how we got Tmac, how the Nets got Deron, and how another team will get Dwight, and so on.

But this is exactly the point. Even if you "tank" that doesn't guarantee a rebuilding success any more than being competitive while rebuilding guarantees success. Those teams are a few examples off the top of my head that chose to "tank"/rebuild through high draft picks and they've been stuck where they are for a really long time. The Clippers are another example, up until last offseason of course. Just because you throw a season to get a high draft pick, that doesn't necessarily mean anything other than a more disinterested fan base than we already have, for a more extended period of time.

So that's why my view is to always be competitive. Clearly, others disagree, but I can't imagine having to suffer through a season of watching a team like Charlotte, New Jersey, Washington, etc...nor do I want to.

We're a star away from being elite...granted that's been the case for 3 years. But let's not act like Morey's not trying. I still think the big trade is coming. And we shouldn't forget that he did have a deal in place for a star, and all indications were that we would've ended up with Nene too. He's always had options, and he's always had a roadmap. I think he knows what he's doing...it would just help to not have a tyrannical NBA commissioner squashing your plans on a whim.

If you think the 1997-98 mavericks tanked, then how do you explain their winning percentage for the last 1/3rd of the season being so much higher (39%) than their season average? (25%)

Can some of you idiots Morey included at least acknowledge there is such a thing as rebuilding without tanking? Or has all brains been lost for Moreys sake?

Do you think the Hornets tanked this year? The same can be said about them.

These idiots and Morey included are just saying tanked so that he does not have to be held accountable for not rebuilding. Tanked is just the word they want to call rebuilding. Because they are morons and do not want to call it rebuilding to mislead people. They really want to just keep trying to compete for that lower playoff seed to fill the seats. Thats why they dont want to rebuild and call it tanking. So they can label that direction a bad one by calling it a bad name. The jig is up. Moreys head is on the line now.

I find it hard to say a team is tanking when they're winning more games as the year draws to a close and/or still starting their best players.

Guess what fat boy? Morey is also is not winning and going to the playoffs if that was his goal. So he is failing at his goal anyways. Rebuilding/tanking or playoff direction. So if he continues to fial to go to the playoffs? Fired.

We have different definitions of tanking then. I don't think most teams try to go out on the court and lose on purpose. I think of tanking as starting from scratch with young guys who will usually struggle and end up with a bad record.

Here is a suggestion lets stop call it tanking and hold them accountable for rebuilding. I want them to rebuild. Screw your tanking talk. Stop using it. Its called rebuilding.

    Lets say it together children

    REBUILD

    I call that rebuilding.

Tanking is when the spurs fake an injury to David Robinson and put him on the shelf so they can draft Tim Duncan.
