About a year ago, my company has upgraded to Microsoft Exchange. All is well, I got access to e-mail on my phone, but did not add my work e-mail to my home computer because my home computer did not have Microsoft Outlook. Now I do, but I can't for the life of me add my exchange account to Outlook.

I'm hoping you guys can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Here's all the information I have on my android phone, which is currently set up to receive e-mails. In the account settings on my android phone:

In Outlook 2010 when attempting to add a new Exchange account:
Here's where I'm having the most problem, it asks:
    Server:
    I type... email.companyname.com

    User Name:
    I type... \royalsego@companyname.com

...doesn't work, I try under User Name \royalsego
...doesn't work, I try again under User Name royalsego
...doesn't work, I try again under User Name royalsego lastname
...doesn't work, I'm running out of ideas.

    Need some help

you don't need the backslash in your username.
The reason it's there in Android is because it's setup as DOMAIN/username. In this case it doesn't appear that you have to type in the domain.

So just type in your username which should just be royalsego, or whatever username you use to log onto your computer at work as it should tie into the company's active directory.

Sorry, I see that you already tried just your username.

    You could also try this
Ping the mailserver for example. - ping mail.companyname.com in a command prompt and type it's IP where it asks for the server information.

One more thing you can try is try connecting over HTTPS, click on the more settings button on the bottom right . It will be under the advanced tab. Then you will type the server name and it will ask if you want to use SSL.

I didn't think the automatic thing would work, but after all those failed attempts, I gave the automatic thing a try... yep, didn't work.

the ping worked in command prompt, typed in the IP, but that didn't yield fruit

Is this on a laptop? I know sometimes it helps if you're connected to your corporate network. You tried setting it up being connected over there or through a VPN?

    It's on my home desktop.

I connected to my exchange email without a hitch on my android phone, but it's ridiculously difficult on my home desktop with Outlook 2010

Forgot to add the bit about being connect to VPN while doing the auto trick.

The auto part is where Outlook downloads a file that has security info.
