CONSPIRACY THEORY: David Stern didn't want the Rockets to make the playoffs because..

I wouldn't go that far!

However, stern did screw us over with the nixed trade and we did get reffed out of some wins

 

I wouldn't go as far as to say the NBA is rigged, however, I wouldn't be surprised if David Stern and the people that run this league had their preferences as to where they would like to see the state of the NBA. The thing that people most often forget is that the NBA is business, so all decisions made by the league are made with the idea in mind that it is the best course of action for the league (money in their pockets).

While it would be difficult to RIG basketball games, the 1) Lottery behind closed doors 2) Nixed Rockets deal with LA and New Orleans, and 3) Certain referees showing up at specific games are examples of the NBA trying to regulate and do what is best for the league as a whole. As unfair as it may sound, the NBA is a business and Stern is trying to do what is best for the league.

 

The NBA is rigged.

 

While the league can't ask a team to lose, they have the power to influence the outcome of not just a game but the trajectory of a specific team. There is no question that the league has its preferences and honestly, if the league could see the Bulls, Knicks, Lakers, or Heat in the Finals every season, they would most certainly prefer that over a team like the Bobcats or the Cavaliers. The NBA is a money-driven business and there is no doubt about that, but the NBA can only go so far as to influence the outcome of an NBA season before people start to question their credibility.

 

yeah, but it's a different fan base and the fair weather fans still have different gear/apparel to buy..

 

I do agree that we lost about 4 or 5 games due to the refs making terrible calls

 

I don't think the NBA is rigged. If it's rigged, then what is everyone doing? We are following a team doomed to lose. If you truly think the NBA is rigged, then why are you on Clutchfans posting about the Rockets? Sounds weird to me.

 

cause the refs had money on the other team. duh until they clean house from the Donahgy era.. somethings always going to stink one way or another.

 

i knew it all along david stern hates us soooo much he gave us the all star game next year just to miss the playoffs this year

 

yeah David Stern was out to screw the Rockets and the city of Houston.

That's why we got Yao Ming and a billion fans in China for the longest time
and we're getting the damn All Star game AGAIN.

and op, from the other games I did watch, there was horrible officiating as well.

not to mention in the games we play, went both ways.

Maybe Stern felt bad for screwing us over and told Morey that if we miss the playoffs he will be sure that our pingpong ball comes up.

 

This. David Stern isn't worried about the Rockets, he could care less if we made the playoffs or not.

 

They didn't rig the games per se, but my sources tell me they made it very clear to the Rocket's front office they did not want scola and martin playing and making their cp3 trade look foolish. Rumor is though scola met separately with league officials and made a deal. He got to keep playing on the condition he didn't play defense or rebound and misses shots as needed. In the end, the Rockets couldn't overcome missing these key players.
