Dunkin Donuts announces plans for 16 new stores in Houston

If you love Dunkin Donuts, you’ll have something to cheer about today.

The company announced plans to open 16 new stores throughout Houston over the next six years.

Dunkin Donuts said another nine locations would open in the San Antonio area by 2018.

According to a release, 521 Interests, which is led by David Greenberg and Stephen David, will open the first of 16 Houston stores by next year.

No details were released about the stores might possible be located. There has been some previous speculation that a DD would be coming to Westheimer and Dunlavy in Montrose.

Dunkin Donuts already has five locations in the Houston area. However, the company said it plans to expand the number of stores in Texas as it tries to reach its goal of doubling the number of restaurants over the next 20 years.

Earlier this year, the company announced a deal with the Jerry Jones family and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman that would bring 50 new Dunkin Donuts to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in the next five years.

Duncan donuts are garbage compared to Shipleys.

The quality has gone way down the last 10 years (except the coffee).

Duncan Donuts is basically the McDonald's of donuts.

If everyone in Texas didn't turn their nose up to companies north of the Mason Dixon line, Duncan Donuts would do very well with their coffee. It is SO much better than anything you can get down here. I buy a giant bag of it at Sams every other month. Donuts are Donuts to me, but the Duncan Donuts' coffee is just the t***.

I went to Boston like 10 years ago, and the only thing I remember about it was lost of graffiti, and a Dunkin Donuts on every other block.

I don't think there's any in California. I want to try it though, I heard they have great coffee.

dunkin donuts has way overexpanded imo. there has been an incredible amount of these things that have opened up recently. the franchisees shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars to open these things and probably the only way they can recoup the money is if someone buys it from when they get tired of the 18-24 hour daily grind.

I don't know what about Dunkin' Donuts would make them an appealing enough alternative to Krispy Kreme or Shipley's to justify the market saturation; but I guess donuts are enough of a staple fast food that the overall economics of it are fine.

I suppose if Houston is growing enough as a commuter city - I've read once or twice that they might overtake Chicago at some point - you can probably justify retail expansion until the place looks like Los Angeles or something.

Well, looks like somebody's station just sold some airtime. Good to see that one-eyed lady from the Hogan Family getting into the fast food biz.

They're a big hit up here, I prefer krispy kreme which doesn't seem to exist North of DC.
